Friday evening, I was waiting for Tim to finish an All You Can Eat crablegs meal, which took 1 1.2 hrs, btw. After I finished my "normal" sized shrimp meal, I pulled out my reader. It froze, so on his next passby, I asked the waiter for a toothpick. Turns out that he doesn't know much about computers, but he has to reset his game sometimes also.
I said it was for reading books. He doesn't read, but he likes to watch movies on his mini DVD player also. Explaining was like talking to a blank wall. |

So far never seen another e-reader in Paris (outside our infamous apéros); I notice people watch me in the bus or café; not a lot of questions though; maybe when I'm engrossed in my reading I turn on my "dydimwimr" look (don't you dare interrupt me while I'm reading) (thanks Ravenne
)

I need one of those. People around here see me reading and take that as a sign that I'm bored and looking for something to do. |

Oh, I went into my pre-programmed "Sony eBook Reader" speech.
It's almost automatic these days. I just hope I don't start going door-to-door to ask if people have "met the Sony eReader" yet ...I am told I am not good at hiding my thoughts, though, so it's highly possible they also got the stunned "are you an f-in' idiot?!" look on my face.

Once I not only missed my metro station (though of course that happens) but as the station was the terminal, I stayed on the train while it stopped, waited for some minutes and then started back the other way. When I finally realized something was wrong, I was practically back at my starting point

Yeah, that happenned to me too, forgeting to get down the train.
The train stops, I raise my head thinking "pff, we're probably not there yet". And realise we're at the station after the one i was supposed to go down. Trains are one every half hour. So i had to wait to go back. |

that never happened to me, although i have missed my station before (but i usually realise pretty quickly and jump off the train and run to the other side...). and sometimes i notice that i'm at my station, but i can't stop reading yet, so i just get out of the train and sit on a seat on the plateform until i get to a better place to stop. during the first Nuit Blanche (all night cultural installations / visits / performances once a year), a friend of mine fell asleep in the train on his way home, and woke up in a deserted train in the garage !!! he had to walk back to the station plateform to get out. in his defense, he was not actually reading at the time.Quote:

There's often a handful of us getting off at my stop who continue reading (mostly on pbooks, although I have seen one other ereader) as we leave the platform and head to the escalator. Oddly, no collisions ever take place! Actually, I must suggest to one of them that they think about getting a reader of some sort - he works at the same place I do and his desk is usually covered in books!
