When things started going downhill (it wasn't just the Nook department) I guess the wheels came off the Nook support (I think they got rid of their in-house developers and went to contractors). I remember at one time B&N sued Microsoft and then the suit was settled when Microsoft invested in the Nook division (which they later sold off). There was talk (at least a couple times) about spinning off the Nook division. Honestly when the Ellis outfit bought B&N I figured the Nooks were toast. Maybe Covid isolation made the Nook viable again? I've run into the same issues when asking about the Nook at my local B&N. It's basically one long shrug -- if they've heard of it at all. And yet the CEO (can't place his name right now) says that Nooks are important part of the company ("more coming")... there seems to be a huge disconnect between those words and what's happening on the ground though. It's would be hard to believe if I hadn't run into almost the exact same attitude at my local B&N. There's no Nook display at all in our store. There's one end-cap (out in the middle of nowhere) where they sell probably 10 cases total and I think some power supplies. That's about it.

This would be like McDonald's releasing a new burger but then no franchise puts it on their menu! Could anyone imagine that happening?
If B&N can put out a good product like the GL4 in spite of their seeming lack of enthusiasm for it, what could they do if they really cared about the Nook, from the CEO to ground level? Yes, the GL4 has some quirks and some cons. There are things about it that each of us would like to tweak. Still, I like it. It's a very good reading device and deserves better support from B&N. If the B&N software ever catches up with its hardware, this could become the best six inch eInk device out there. The third party reader apps I have on mine are very responsive in loading books and turning pages. The Nook stock reader could be just as responsive in B&N did their homework. |

Just noticed that NGL4 is on sale a month after this device has been released. Yes I got mislead that 29 GB was available on device when I bought the device. Like all the other comments on this forum, the device still has a lot of the same ongoing issues. The reading experience with my sideloaded bolder font books from Calbrie is enjoyable. I now remember why I left BN Nook and went to Kobo.
I did send an email to the Head of Public Relations outlining my concerns. No response at this time. https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/noo...=9780594149293 |

Well, that's a fine trick to play on all the people who bought it early.

I ask because my Glowlight 3 has issues that I'm pretty sure aren't normal. If the Glowlight 4 is as stable as my 2015 Glowlight Plus, I'm fine. But if there are bugs, that's different. |

Yeah, I saw that in the other thread. I really don't get it. So you've got about 23 GBs of space for Nook books from the B&N. Since most people use their Nooks for ePubs, how many thousands of ePubs is that? Do people buy that many eBooks from B&N? Ever?
But, like you say, you'd (I'd) probably never use 5 GBs anyhow. It's just, "why?" Why are they doing this? It's not like they're subsidizing the reader for using it on B&N anymore. You can get a PocketBook HD3 for $10 more. It has 16 GBs of memory, ADE built-in, it's "waterproof" (resistant?), it's lighter, has page turn buttons and is much more open. It even has TTS built-in (via BlueTooth) with a choice of multiple voices for most languages, and it supports audio books -- and I can buy and open books directly on the device from those who sell DRM ePubs. Or borrow from OverDrive directly from the (slow) eInk browser. It looks the screen on the HD3 is pretty much the same as on the GL4. (Does anyone know how many LEDs the GL4 has? The HD3 has 13, 7 white, 6 amber. |

I just bought the Glow '21 out of habit.
I'm still faithful to my main squeeze, an Onyx Poke3 (with keyfob remote). |
