Doesn't he just need to set up shop on a non US server? Wouldn't that resolve interference?

Reading https://github.com/github/dmca/blob/...-04-readium.md, some issues we have with DRMs seem to be solved in this LCP thing:

LCP possesses several interesting characteristics: This DRM solution is available on every client platform (iOS, Android, Windows, MacOS, Linux, specific eInk Readers); with the open-source Readium development toolkits, EDRLab provides an open-source codebase which eases such integration. LCP does not lock the user into a proprietary environment. This is why e-lending libraries are moving to this solution, worldwide. The DRM solution is especially useful for library e-lending, as it provides loan extensions and early return features. This DRM solution does not hurt the accessibility of the content it protects, for people with reading impairment; this is why is it promoted by the DAISY Consortium. This DRM solution lets users share LCP protected ebooks with friends and family; there is no predefined number of devices which can use an LCP protected ebook. This is the only DRM solution which is based on an open standard. This means that inspecting the software for flaws is easy. The encryption profile is the only confidential information. When we compare with the Kindle DRM (pure locker) or the Adobe DRM (no fair use, issues with accessibility), plus the large use of their solution by libraries, it's not so bad. |

noDRM could actually just upload a version that has the LCP parts patched out. |

I suspect that patching out will still cause hassles as people could reactivate it; that bit of code would need stripping out completely if Readium are being that aggressive about things.

In the shorter term we can perhaps hope someone will step up and update the Apprentice Harper codebase leaving out the readium patches. Last edited by darryl; 01-08-2022 at 07:40 AM. |

				noDRM

Hi there, I stumbled upon this thread while googling a solution for my situation.

Our library switched to Readium LCP and my trusted DeDRM plugin from many years ago was not ready for such a brisky 2022. Turns out Apprentice Harper dedicated to something else and noDRM took the place of deDRM (as far as I understood). I was VERY happy to read that v10.0.2 supported Readium LCP, just to be smacked in the face a few minutes later: I missed the github for by a mere few days. Hence my question, is there any other source of the noDRM plugin other than the gituhub fork? If the question is not appropriate I will delete it. Any help/hint would be greatly appreciated, even in the DM. Have a great weekend |

No-one should be taking DRM off library titles, they are only borrowed.

I'm of the opinion that there are people who could conscientiously make use of DeDRMed library content. So no judgement there on my part. But it seems that promoting the ability to remove DRM (specifically the LCP variety) from library books was a bridge too far.

I don't support the current DMCA Takedown practices (guilty by accusation), but I'm honestly pretty surprised that drm removal projects have enjoyed the freedom they have for so long on code versioning system platforms. |

Hosting is not the issue (though finding such that allows free, unfettered downloads that don't try to push malware on all of your users is a chore in itself). It's being able to take advantage of a cvs system so that maintaining, releasing, hosting, and incorporating code contributions doesn't have to occupy way too much of one's time. |

Did you mean VCS? It's been a long time since I've seen the phrase "advantages of CVS".

No. I meant CVS. If Concurrent Version System is out of style, surely those familiar with the concept will still understand what I mean?
