Checking, files download by K4PC or K4Mac are downloaded as .azw and calibre will rename them as .azw3 or .mobi on import. Files downloaded by Download and Transfer via USB are downloaded as .azw3 or .mobi (depends on your device, old devices will always get .mobi). One possibility that comes to mind is that in Preferences, under Behavior, you have your default output format set to .mobi AND under Add books => Adding Actions, you have enabled Automatically convert added books to the preferred output format on import. See the two images for those settings. Last edited by DNSB; 12-02-2021 at 10:19 PM. |

Thanks @DNSB,
Neither of those settings had any effect. I am using Kindle for PC v1.33 I can see the book has been downloaded as *.azw In Calibre I use Add files to selected book records. I end up with mobi With the previous version of DeDRM, I ended up with AZW3 |

If you disable DeDRM, does the books import as .azw or do they still import as .mobi? You also might try updating to version 10.0.2. |

I also reverted to v7.x and it was still mobi. Quote:
I downloaded and converted another two books. One imported as azw3 and the other as mobi. So I have mixed results like you experienced. |

Detailed help with DRM removal is not permitted at MobileRead.
(But I think it's OK for me to say that I recently imported a book using the 10.0.1 plugin, and got an AZW3. I don't think it's the plugin.) |

Kindle for PC/Mac uses AZW extensions for all formats. Once DeDRMed, the extension will reflect the format. Some books aren't available as azw3. Or, as David said, if you're downloading from or for an older Kindle which can't handle azw3, you'll see azw/mobi.

I'm struggling a little bit with the github code presentation (rather than the more simple old zip file), but its good to learn new things.

and remember that the zip file you download is not the install zip file. The install zip file is contained inside the download.
I got caught out by that. |

I realize that detailed help with DRM removal is not permitted here. A little background...I'm a 72 year old grandma who hasn't been involved with my computer much more than email and social media for the past 7-8 years, but I was able to figure this out before, so I think I'm somewhat capable of doing it again. I just need to know if I'm on the right track.
I have a new MI iMac running Big Sur. I'm still running an OLD Calibre (version 1.45--saw no need to upgrade because it did all I needed). I have Adobe Digital Editions 2.0 on my computers but it obviously doesn't run. I also still have an older iMac running High Sierra. 1). Will I be able to get up and running with my old DeDRM if I am just able to get ADE 2.0 to run? Or do I basically have to start over by reinstalling the newest version of DeDRM and plugins from scratch? 2) I don't know how to run the older version of ADE on my computer. It tells me a newer version is available. How do I get around that? I don't mind reading and researching the how to's, but if it's gotten to be over my head, I may just leave well enough alone. I’ve printed out the README files for the plugin. Hopefully it will jar my memory on how I installed it before. Is my best bet to register and ask questions on the github site? I don’t want to step on any toes here. I appreciate any help you can provide or if you can point me to any resources that would be helpful. Christine |

There is an .acsm plugin for calibre, which is supposed to be able to obviate need for ADE to download the .epub. I have not gotten it to work but it’s some issue with my ADOBE ID password I think.

I only run virtual Macs for testing various things but one co-worker is using calibre 5.34 with nodrm's latest version of DeDRM from the link in the first message in this thread and the DeACSM plugin so he can import the .ascm files directly into calibre without needing ADE. |
