Extracting Kindle Wallpapers?

I really like kindle's stock wallpapers. Is there a way to extract them from a kindle so i can use them on other devices like kobo?

You can download a Kindle firmware .bin file from Amazon, use Kindletool to unpack it (you can download Kindletool from Snapshots of NiLuJe's hacks ), then use 7Zip to open the extracted rootfs.img.gz and dig down to rootfs.img.gz/fwo_rootfs.img/usr/share/blanket/screensaver/ You'll find the .png images for the screensaver there.

Edit: Modified slashes to attempt to remove extraneous inserted spaces.

Or, if the kindle is already jailbroken, just scp or rsync them from /usr/share/blanket/screensaver/

I think many of the sleep screens on the DX are far better than any of the newer kindle sleep screens, and they aren't in any of the firmware updates, so jailbreak is the only way to get those.

Thank you very much. I downloaded kindletool, extracted the exe and run it and it opens a cmd window and closes. how do i use this tool to extract the update files?

Which OS are you running and which kindletool did you download?

Create a directory (call it what you will) and then place KindleTool.exe and the downloaded .bin file (update_kindle_all_new_paperwhite_v2_5.14.1.bin as an example) in the same directory and create a directory called unpack in that directory.

Open a command prompt, change to that directory and then run the following command line:

KindleTool extract <update_name>.bin %~DP0unpack\

This will extract the contents of the .bin file to the unpack directory. In that directory, open the rootfs.img.gz file with 7Zip and dig down to the screensaver directory.

Hi. Windows 10 and kindletool for windows.

Got it working now. I used the oasis fw update so the screensavers match my libra 2's resolution.
