I'm told that the next Calibre update should include a driver for this Nook.

One more tidbit: for all you Android fans out there, our Nook Glowlight 4 has Project Treble enabled.

I promise I'm not trying to be negative, but I just don't get what the upgrade is here..
A little bit faster and USB-C basically? Is the screen quality a lot better? The buttons moved a little.... good I guess? Major bummer to see it doesn't get as "orange" -- that was a unique feature on the last gen. |

I wonder what the deal with the storage is? Per the Nook website:

It depends how you access the storage, it seems. If you connect this Nook to a computer, a window pops up asking if you want to turn on USB mode. When you do, you'll find a Nook drive on your computer that, according to properties, is a little over 5GB. I get the same result on Mac, Windows and Linux. If you check storage out in the Nook's settings, you get the full amount listed. Looks like an effort to keep user sideloaded content in a sandbox of its own!

Yes, there really is ~28 GB free storage.
What they (seem?) to be saying that you have 28 GB for B&N + sideloaded. The sideloaded special UMS is apparently ~5 GB. You don't want UMS. I don't know much about things that I don't use. I just plugged in the Glow and ran my standard makefile which uses (my own) AdbSync.exe to sync any of my devices. A minute later I had a couple of Gigs synced. Edit: Oh, it seems to currently only take 2 touches on the screen. The DisplayMetrics coming out of this (which might affect scaling in your reader app) are weird. XDPI 289.668 YDPI 245.194 (Yes, this is a 300 DPI device.) Oh, yeah, if you want more storage it should be trivial to add an internal SD card (like I've done with the Glow2 and the Glow7.8). You need to solder though. Last edited by Renate; 12-10-2021 at 12:50 PM. |

I'm aware of UMS but I don't plan to use it. Installed apps and their data go into the bigger storage pot, as do anything purchased from B&N. I only brought it up because it could be confusing for people who expect 32GB and get ~5 for sideloaded stuff!
I installed the CPU-Z app (root not required) and see that the Nook has a Cortex Allwinner A23 CPU with 2 GB RAM. Oddly, the app reads screen density as 258 dpi even though it's supposed to be 300. |

Are you getting title bar on things that are supposed to be full screen (like a non-stock reader)?
Allwinner has a lot of fun with model numbers. This is a B300. There's a 3 page PDF here: https://www.allwinnertech.com/upload...06190003a1.pdf Last edited by Renate; 12-10-2021 at 01:57 PM. |

So, for the easy way you can just install Magisk.
It will need a copy of boot.img which you can extract from an update. As there seems to be a problem with fastboot boot, you can save it in recovery (/dev/block/mmcblk0p8) and boot recovery. Your mods will have to be as Magisk modules (so that you can do Treble updates). Code:
E60P54_android:/ $ su E60P54_android:/ # |

So now the darkest orange light, AFAIK, is the Onyx.

Still wish they would include the Nook plug along with the charging cord. Those are quite handy. Can still find them on ebay I guess.

As to the title bar, if a third party reader app has a full-screen option, that removes the title bar as well. PS - My Nook's cover arrived this afternoon. Last edited by downeaster59; 12-10-2021 at 04:58 PM. |

As for other reader apps...
The Kindle app essentially does not work. I can install it and open a book, but it then freezes on the first page or, if it responds at all to any tap, it does so v-e-r-y slowly. KOReader works quite well. Page turns are smooth and quick. Librera also works quite well. Librera can open more book formats than KOReader, which may be an advantage. |

Mostly, I'd like to be able to control series and shelves via Calibre. Nook has series, but it only works for content from B&N. And creating shelves in the device is a pain. |
