Ok... enough with the USAA love fest. We need some good rants.

Marc, where are you? any lawn equipment purchases recently?

Rant:

One of my new co-workers is GINORMOUSLY fat!

He had a heart attack a month ago. At 43.

And he is hideously ugly.

And incredibly IGNORANT!

And I want to punch him.

In the Face.

All the time.

Or knee him.

In the nuts.

ugggghhhhh!

I suppose I could rant about my main gas burner in my furnace going out last night.

Now, now .... just keep in mind that he'll probably be dead before you turn out the lights. Either someone will mistake him for a yeti, and shoot him, or, he'll keel over from his second heart attack. Either way ... he'll be dead.

So, buck up, krisk!! It only a matter of hours, at most a few days.

I used to have a co-worker who was well over 400 pounds. It wouldn't have been a problem, but every time she walked by, it felt like an earthquake. When you are trying to look at biopsy slides and tissue samples under a microscope, it really doesn't help to have the whole thing bouncing around on the laboratory bench.

Now, you've reminded me of when they had to do surgery on her. I don't remember what it was for. I think it was a huge tumor or cyst (basketball sized) that she never knew she had (she was that fat). When those poor guys came out of the operating room after something like eight hours, they looked like they were going to die!!

It is extraordinarily difficult to do any sort of surgery when you have to cut through several inches of blubber in order to get to anything. It also makes anesthesia a bitch. They were trying to get her to lose about 150 pounds before the surgery, but she never even tried to lose weight. (This was back in the very early 80s .... bariatric surgery wasn't the big thing it is now.)

As someone who is overweight I find this insulting. Is he really "ugly" and "ignorant" or do you just feel all overweight people are that way? Oh and you forgot lazy... all overweight people are lazy too, right?

I can also rant about how what I thought was a perfectly normal taste for cozy mysteries has turned into being highly unusual. I posted a list on Google Notebook for a friend who wanted to know what to look for for me at used bookstores in the Boston area. The reply I got was, "Are you sure you didn't make up these names?"

Obviously this person has a different taste in books than you do. For instance, most people wouldn't think that a book called "Casting a Spell" would have anything to do with Knitting, but it does revolve around a knitting store.
Just accept that you will not be swapping books with that person, tell them "yes they are real books" and curl up to read your latest mystery find.

I think the Rev Clair Furgessen books apply if you got those two freebees, Fountain Filled With Blood and In The Bleak Midwinter... if you got them when they were free.

Sorry, I still don't know how to do multiple quotes in one message. I'm replying to both Am and Zelda.

Traditionally, Am is correct. But the genre has expanded exponentially (I do adore allliteration, *grin*) in recent years. You have cat mysteries, cooking mysteries, needlework mysteries, knitting mysteries, scrapbooking mysteries... Here's the link to that Google Notebook list of authors. This plus a good Amazon search should give you an idea of what I mean when I use the term. Ignore my personal notes on some items..or get a good laugh out of them, either one .

On the right, next to the Quote button, is a small button that looks like a stack of paper. Click that on the first and any subsequent posts you want to quote, except the last. For the last one you want to quote, click Quote - hey presto, they're all quoted!

I think a "cozy" is one where you don't have to hear *too* much about the blood and the gore of the murder. You just solve it. They're a little ... cleaner .... than a more hard-core murder mystery. In the blood/gore sense of clean.

Yes to both Am and Deb. Although the series by Wendy Roberts about a lady who cleans up crime scenes and sees the victim's ghosts is a little gory.
