Of course neither the Sage nor the Libra are suitable for those who want a small, pocketable device. They're both larger than the Voyage (the Sage with its 8'' screen is quite a bit larger and heavier).
Well, I did recently read of someone who broke a Pocketbook HD3 in a pocket. So I'm all for it not fitting in a pocket.

That is not evidence that it is risky to carry an e-reader in a pocket. You have also read of multiple people that have carried e-readers in pockets for years without trouble.

On average over 100 people in the US are killed each day in automobile crashes. Are you opposed to people travelling by automobile? Do you ever travel by automobile?

Contrast and blacks are still slightly better on the Voyage for me.
But overall I prefer the Libra2 screen at night because it has a great warm light and even frontlight.

That's what I do, even with my suitcase. And if it won't fit there, I just put the suitcase inside my underwear when traveling. There's plenty of room, since there's nothing there!

But seriously, folks.....

There's been a lot of positive buzz on the Libra 2. The screen is quite nice and very even. No gradient. I can't even tell where the lights are without looking at it edgewise. Reviewers and owners alike give it the edge over to the new Paperwhite on clarity and contrast. I want it badly to best my voyage, too, because I like the larger screen, the warm light, dark mode, and because I'm so ready to make the jump to Kobo, more open, more customizable, more active development going on. Like Mulder, I want to believe!

And yet, and yet..

Eh. The difference is minor. So what if it's not quite the same? The Libra 2 has many other advantages, which you yourself just listed.

I dunno. I guess I just don't get that "one reader to rule them all" mindset. All my ereaders have had their advantages and disadvantages, none of them was perfect. Not even the Voyage (which I didn't even particularly like, other than the contrast).

If you seek absolute perfection, you'll probably always be disappointed.

the background of the Libra 2 looks green to me.

i (always) try to remember what i think is the golden rule. what may or may not matter to me is just that. in other words it's each to their own.

best wishes koboy

I don't think the voyage is perfect, nor do I have one reader to rule them all mentality (unless you mean I prefer to just use one e-reader rather than juggle multiple devices then yes I do). However, I think one metric rules them all and that is the display quality.

I don't like the green tint on the Libra (I'm sensitive to color) and it doesn't look as clear to me. My eyesight isn't great and I need all the contrast I can get. I'm bummed that nothing has matched the voyage's screen yet, which I don't even care much about otherwise. I turned off the haptic buttons and the light sensor; the only two notable features the voyage has besides the screen just annoy me.

Hmm my Libra 2 doesn't have a green tint (my Sage does and my Libra 1 did as well). But I guess the screens vary between individual units.

I have reached the conclusion that the Voyage was one of a kind, as regards the contrast. No one has produced the same display since and so it's useless to want that. But IMHO the Libra 2 comes very close.

I have poor eyesight too. But I compensate for worse contrast with choosing a dark and sharp font (no default font on any ereader is good enough for me) and upping the weight. This way I've managed to read comfortably on both the Oasis 2 and the Libra H2O, which both had less than average contrast.

I'm definitely not an expert on the subject, but based on your picture the Voyage is not showing a lot of the finer details of the image, compared to the Libra 2. See the difference between the signatures on the bottom right corner, or some of the smaller circular details in the hairstyle (like top right, under the butterfly wing), the hairline... I'm not sure if that also depends on how the Kindle and Kobo softwares handle grayscale conversion. What's black looks equally black in both screens to me.

It is true though that there's a certain generation of E-Ink screens that was really white, and I'm not sure there's been any screen quite as white in the following releases. The Voyage is one example, but the Kobo Aura H2O too has the whitest screen of all the readers I've ever owned, even though it didn't have 300ppi. The Glo HD screen too was really nice.

i definitely agree the Kobo Aura H2O has an excellent white screen/contrast. i can't comment on the Kobo Glo HD having not used one in person. it does beg the question why aren't the E-Ink screens of today as white as the Kindle Voyage/Kobo Aura H2O.

edit. for clarity, why aren't they as white with the front light off.

best wishes koboy

The Kindle is muddy. The image is not as detailed. It's not good. The Kobo''s image looks a lot more detailed.
