Honestly, I don't care about what people call their Paperwhites. But, I have seen those numbers and I've never actually known where they came from. I have periodically looked at the pages Amazon has for them, and I don't remember ever seeing Amazon selling the devices with those names. They currently have "Kindle Paperwhite" and "Kindle Paperwhite Signature". I have no idea what number is added to them, but, as Amazon doesn't tell me, I'm not surprised that someone is making something up. Using the year of release might have been better. But, Amazon does mention the generation, and their "Identify Your Kindle E-Reader" pages uses the generation. And for the record, when people said, "11th generation Paperwhite", I assumed it meant the 11th version of the Paperwhite, and I was surprised there had been that many.

But, Kobo has named these devices. They are completely clear that they are called and people using different names is never going to help. If the names were longer and more complicated, it would be one thing. But they are not and the advantage of typing "1" instead of "H2O" is so tiny it doesn't make up for the potential for confusion.

When I saw the YouTube comparison between the Libra2 and Paperwhite 5, I didn't understand, because in Italy on Amazon they always refer to the paerwhite as 10th (regenerate one) and 11th gneration: "Generazione: Kindle Paperwhite (11ª generazione), modello 2021." (From Italian Amazon site)

Yes I did. I got an email too. My Libra 2 order is using my visa credit card, and Amazon will honour existing orders.

I've read in these various pages about the KA1 and thought the poster must have been referring to a kindle device, and they were comparing a kindle to a kobo, but they actually referred to the Kobo aura

And as a I don't have, nor was interested in the libra h2O, I had no idea it wasn't the libra 1 that was being referred to in various places. (And I still don't get why kobo named an ereader after a brand of tampons )
I have used Kobos since 2017, but I agree. I have also from time to time been confused by the different nomenclaturas and "home made" abbreviations of the different e-readers and models.

I've been using a Kobo since 2019 and I've never been confused by "homemade" names, despite not knowing much about earlier Kobos. Usually it's not that hard to work out what was meant.

Yes, I'm lazy. And I call a device what I want to call it, there's no law somewhere saying I must use the official name . If someone doesn't like it, they just have to live with it. I also don't like many things other people do, but that's life.

I for one aren't picking on you @sirtel (I've mentioned my preferences). I reckon you've done a mighty job describing all your various observations of the kobo devices. You've been most informative and helpful

Please keep up the great work

All of this because someone decided to call Libra H2O as Libra 1? SMH.

For the record I got what they meant. And I have not used a Kobo device before Libra 2.

Nah, it's far more long standing than this thread.

Lots of people here who speak English as a second language, and others like me who just try and figure out the acronyms.

No big deal, airing the linen.

Are you new to mobileread, or were your previously a member and have joined again. I think there may be a few returns amongst the newer folk.

Because
1 - you were being rude / judgemental calling what they did "laziness"
2 - Your example about the search makes no sense and is too extreme, unless you went after everybody calling it a Libra (without the H2O) with the same energy the past 2 years.

And of course, these posts are going to be around for a while. Somewhere in the future someone is going to search for references to the "Libra H2O" and find none of yours. Or look back for some information when the some future Libra-named device is released and then have to work out what you mean.

As much as you don't care about what happens with the Kindle line, it happens and we're still able to talk about them.

I've had my Libra 2 for several weeks now and the battery was 75% when I left for work this morning, and now it's completely empty.

I read about some battery issues other people had, but I'm hoping this is a one time thing for me.

Anyone had the same experience?

Curiously I've had it happen on my forma maybe twice, and it was after I'd left it plugged into my laptop for a period of time (so the laptop was charging it) . I'd plugged it into the laptop to sideload from calibre, ejected the device from calibre but it was still plugged in, and the laptop still on.

When I realised the forma had little to no battery left, a matter of hours later, I plugged it back into my wall charger and it was right again. As in battery longevity.
