Check out the Kobo Forma. It has really good even natrual warm backlight (which is much more difficult than even white light). And I am notoriously picky about that.

Backlighting is very difficult for eink. I would go so far as to say impossible.

As far as frontlighting, depends on the Forma, or person, or both. I just purchased a Forma, and the lighting isn't even. It doesn't bother me, but it isn't even.

Trying to decide if I should keep my H2O or get the new Libra 2 for Christmas I love the white H2O and in many ways it's my ideal reader. The lowered contrast compared to other Kobos I own and the slightly uneven lightning didn't bother me as much, but knowing that the Libra 2 fixes all of these things, has dark mode and bigger storage and keeps the same color and form factor I like... to those who owned both, would you say that that there is truly such a big difference in screen quality? Everyone keeps saying it but I don't think it truly shows in pictures.

Being a gluten for punishment I’ve just ordered a 32GB Forma from Kobo. I’ve still got my Libra 2 order with Amazon but it has no date yet. I don’t want both.

Will kobo allow you to return the errader without fault?

I'm fairly sure they wouldn't in Australia

Yes, Kobo allow returns or any reason within 30 days. I wouldn’t return it unless the screen was dire. In my view that would be a fault anyway.

“If you purchased your eReader from Kobo.com and are dissatisfied with it for any reason, you have 30 days after the date of purchase to return it to Kobo.

Any delivery fees charged to you to return the eReader to us are your responsibility. Upon receipt of the returned device, Kobo will refund the cost of the eReader to the credit card charged at the time of purchase, less any initial delivery charges.”

The Australian version

And there you go, Kobo does allow dissatisfaction returns here. Samsung doesn't, as soon as the box is opened you can't return a Samsung bought direction Samsung
Good to see Kobo does

Pity that the kobo ereader store has stuffed up purchases with Visa and mastercard - they can't be used for purchases because of unspecified reasons - although they still show as you can.

I just used a visa credit card with my order. I get three years free insurance with my card so I always make sure to use it for ereaders.

Finally my Libra 2 arrived. I just unboxed it. Have yet to test but first impression is that it is noticeably heavier than my Libra h20. Not that muvh but you can feel it.

I like the finish of the case on this one than my h20. the latter seems to be more fingerprint magnet.

The contrast is great. Definitely better than my h20. and the light is so even. On my h20, you can see the leds under the buttons-side bezel. Here I do not see them. In fact I cannot determine where the leds are and if they are indeed on that side of the screen.

The warm light is so orangy compared to my libra h20. I like it. I like it very much.

Gonna skin the back now.

Ordered a Libra 2 yesterday via Amazon and it was dropped off at my door today.
(American here.)
Immediately popped off the back cover, gently removed the micro-SD card, and imaged it on my Linux laptop. Applied image to new Samsung 256GB card ($40 from Microcenter) and expanded the FAT partition out to the rest of the space on the card. Popped it back in the Libra 2 and booted it up, registered it, and immediately loaded the ~5,000 books/manga to it.
Installed KOReader and now it's all good.
I'm lazy and just never want to have to worry about storage on it ever again.
I also have a Clara HD that I upgraded to 64GB and it's excellent as well but I wanted a bit bigger screen to better read manga on.

Coming from an older Kindle Paperwhite model, the two Kobos are a nice upgrade.

Now for those that were discussing the "waterpoofing" on the micro-SD card, I found my model had a very thin film of something covering the micro-SD card itself but did not find any globs of that stuff anywhere on the mainboard itself.
All I did was break out my PC tool kit and pushed the card out from the back of the card holder via the tiny hole that is there with a fine set of tweezers while wiggling the card a bit side-to-side and pulling with my fingers. It eventually pops out. Then I cleaned off the card, captured the image, applied it to the 256GB card.
It booted up just fine from the new card, no need to go to great lengths to clean any waterproofing gunk off the micro-SD card holder. It's like the coated the factory card with the waterproofing film making sure to keep it off the contacts and then just shoved it into the slot to dry. Also used a small plastic pick to scrape under the exposed part of the card sticking out of the slot to separate the waterproof film from the mainboard.
All told it took about 10 minutes to pop the cover off and remove the factory micro-SD card.
So for about $225 total I now have a nice 7" e-reader with 256GB of storage. Not bad.

Would your image of the Libra 2 work for other units?

Can you share it with us/me? Thanks

Hopefully it should work, the only thing I'm not clear about is whether there are different waveforms to consider. The waveform is shown under Settings » Device Information » Firmware Information. If that's the same for every Libra 2 device then any image should work, if there are different waveforms then you might want to keep a backup of your own...
