Aura One vs. 8" Kobo

Does anyone have both the Aura One from 2016-17 and the Sage or Forma? If so, could you compare the same book at the same font and size and see how much more text per page the 8" shows, if any?

I've got the Aura One and mostly like it. The screen is excellent and it shows a lot more text per page than my Kindle Oasis. But it isn't the most user friendly "holdable" with very thin bezels and no buttons. It's easier to accidentally turn page(s) when you don't intend to.

I'd like to have a larger screen for more text between page turns and I'd like to have buttons again. I may go for the Forma just for buttons and bezel but I'd like it if it showed more text per page. I'd think it would but thought maybe someone could check and confirm. Thanks for any input!

I made a size comparison of the Aura One and the Forma, back in the day when the Forma was first announced. (See attachment.)

The displays are almost the same size...
The 8" display of the Forma (Sage) is about 3 mm wider and 4 mm higher then the 7,8" display of the Aura One.

So that means you can squeeze in like two more letters in each row and maybe one entire extra row at the bottom.

If the Aura One is too small for you, the Forma / Sage won't be much of a difference.

That is very helpful. Thank you. I mistakenly thought the Aura One is a 7" screen. You are right. From 7.8" to 8" isn't going to make enough difference to matter. Now the decision is mostly about getting buttons which I like.

The buttons on the Sage aren't as good as those on the Oasis. They're stiffer and positioned more toward the edge. At least for me they're not as comfortable to use.

Still, even these buttons are better than no buttons IMO.

The difference i think is about 6% total area

If you don't mind next to no margins all around (for my part I do mind), there are patches to reduce them to a minimum.

I still haven't sussed how multi-quote works, but here's a screenshot of my Sage (same screen size as the Forma) with those patches applied if it helps.

On the posts you want to multi-quote, hit the multi-quote button (stacked papers button lower right of post) on the posts you want to quote, then hit '> NEW REPLY' (at the top of the bottom of the posts).

I exchanged my Aura One (my first e-book reader) for a Forma, but I did not do it for the screen size. I remember them being both great and practically equeal in that regard.

I changed to a Forma for better natural light (was uneven on a copuple of Auro One I had), and for the better ergonomics with the wedge and page turn buttons.

Very happy with the change for improved natural ligth and ergonomics, but I would not do it for screen size. I bet you will not notice the extremly small difference in size.

No, the size is almost the same. I was mistaken about the Aura screen size. I've been reading the Aura again the last few days. I'm noticing it is much slower to start up than the Oasis and then it goes to the library rather than back to the book/page I was just reading. It also is slower page turning. So now I'm thinking if there's a reason to upgrade it's to get a higher performance model.

Excuse the shadows, both screens look the same. The picture on the right is the Kobo Sage and the picture on the left is the KA1. The sage has usually a couple of sentences to half a paragraph more at most. You will notice that the KA1 is on page 55 of 453, while the Sage is on 54 of 431. I have them both on Georgia font at the same size. The KA1 is at 5% light and the Sage at 10% to match.

That is interesting. Thank you. The Sage actually looks smaller but I guess that is the angle and maybe the shadows as well. I appreciate the photo. I think I like the researching and studying more than actually getting a new device.
