UI resets to unworkable dimensions
Hi I hope somebody can help, because it's driving me crazy. every time i open the editor the user interface is incredibly annoying. the sidebars are sized so i can effectively can't work with it and have to drag them back in place.
Most of the time i have to open multiple files, and every one i open it is back to the annoying dimensions. is there a way to change or lock the borders? The sizes are remembered automatically. If they arent for you then most likely there are permissions issues preventing the editor from saving its state on quit.

Well, this is an old and annoying issue for me either. I've already made a post about this a long time ago. IIRC, the problem is the minimum size allowed by QT for the search bar. Every time you close the Editor without closing the search bar first, then it messes your UI setup.
It would be really nice if this could be "fixed" somehow. |

If you are referring to the Search bar under Preview, how do you close it, other than by closing the entire Preview panel? Which OS? BR |

Same OS for me, still on 5.31.1. Not having any similar problems.
Can you post a screen shot that shows your layout, here's mine: I have my configuration data in a non standard location via the CALIBRE_CONFIG_DIRECTORY Environment Variable BR |

FWIW, Sigil on macOS and other platforms has the same issue with its Find and Replace and the bug is internal to Qt where it does not properly restored saved state and geometry of docked windows when reopening. This bug has been long reported but never really fixed by Qt.
To work around it I had to: in close event before saving state and geometry, save fact F&R was open or closed, close it, then save main window state and geometry. When opening in ReadSettings restore geometry and then after final resize is done reopen F&R if it was previously open. This is a horrible hack but I could not see a better way. Looking forward to see what Kovid comes up with here as I am out of ideas. |

I'm afraid I dont follow. I tried the following steps:
1) Open editor 2) Open search and replace 3) Resize both the side panels to as large as possible, i.e. to the limit imposed by the search panel 4) Quit the editor, with the search panel open 5) Re-open the editor 6) The sizes from step 3 are preserved. This works for me on both linux and macos, didnt try windows but I doubt it will fail there |

@Kovid - the OP has somehow made the File Browser and Preview panels impossibly skinny.
@thiagi.eec - can you do that, 'cos I can't, this is as skinny as I can make the three panels. BR |

1) With the Editor open, press CTRL+F to open Find and Replace. The layout looks like this: 2) Close the Editor just like on the image above. 3) Open the Editor, and now it looks like this: This happens every time. |

@thiago how narrow can you make the central panel?? Can you narrow it enough to make the case sensitive checkbox take an extra line?

Then I have to say I am stumped. Given I cannot reproduce its rather hard for me to come up with a fix.
