I think we’ll see an Oasis in 2022 with USB-C, Wireless charging (which means no more metal back), improved battery life and a 8” screen.

You're likely right. I actually really like the metal back, but some don't, so they may change that out. I don't care at all if they change the USB but I know that's a contention with many and since they updated the paperwhite with this, they likely will with the Oasis. Improved battery life it does need. 8 inch screen I'm mixed on as that will make it less portable, but you're probably right on all of this.

While an 8” Oasis with USB-C and wireless charging and 5GHz WiFi is the minimum what they would need to produce in order to justify keeping an Oasis in the lineup. Oasis sales are probably already getting cannibalized because the PW5 has some features that it lacks.

That said, we won’t see it until next year; Amazon is going to want to crunch the numbers after the first few months of PW5 sales. If Oasis sales tank, does it mean the form factor (including buttons) don’t have appeal? Or that everybody that wanted one already has one, and is waiting for something that qualifies as a clear improvement (which the PW5 is not).

I’ve just bought the Oasis 3 and I really like it. I know it’s two years old but I’m so glad i didn’t weaken and get the PW5 instead. It cost me nothing after selling my Oasis 2, PW4 and trading in my old Touch so if they come out with a new version next year I might get that and pass the 3 onto hubby.

I want a new Oasis but I don’t want it to be any larger (unless it’s narrower bezels that allow for a bigger screen). My ideal device was the 6” Oasis but the battery was an issue so I switched to the next version when it was released. I have never liked it as well. So although I will really miss the buttons I’ve decided to get a Signature Paperwhite for my Christmas gift (it’s supposed to arrive on the 24th so fingers crossed!) and hope for an improved Oasis next year.

I doubt it. There's a common factor between you and the designers: they're Californians and you live in Florida. Warm places.

It's those of us in the desolate frozen north (well, OK, muddy fenland in my case) -- at any rate, places where temperatures low enough that touching metal at room temperature for long periods of time hurts -- that hate the metal back. Keep the environment warmer than about 20--25C and I suspect you don't even notice what it's made of.

I use a Fintie easel stand on all my readers if possible. I'm beginning to think the new PW is going to become the primary reader, a new Oasis being unlikely to evolve into what I want and the new PW being closer to it.

Was waiting to see what was new this year. I have a Voyage that I love. Saw the new Paperwhite and wasn't impressed (vs. my Voyage) but I did like the Oasis 3. I found a mint one used and am now getting used to it. So far I like it.

Yeah, the nice thing about the original Oasis 1 was that it was light enough that I could use my tongue to hold it so I could read with no hands at all!!! The Oasis 3 is just too heavy for that dammit.

... um have I just outed myself as a chameleon? normal humans have a tongue half their body length too you know, honest, if yours is shorter than that you need corrective surgery

My Oasis with a cover is the only e-reader that I can use while laying on my left side in bed. I'd love a new model with a larger screen but the same design.
