Well, the package is scheduled to be delivered today. Mind you, it was shipped with GLS, which often marks packages as delivered mid morning, and when I call mid afternoon where the package is it is quickly delivered and I get a BS excuse. Or they deliver it to my "neighbour" 200 meters further up the street (I live in the city center), and I won't find where it's delivered until I can and make them pick up the package and deliver it to me. So we'll see what happens today.
Current rant: today the new Paperwhite Signature Edition is released, at least in Germany. But not on the Dutch website apparently. So I'll be ordering from the German website, than I get it on Saturday at least. |

Not even a message in the spam box this time! I went down to check the mail (as usual, fast food coupons) and the package was sitting in the lobby. At least this time they didn't put it in full view of the window.

There is a fair chance our government is going to require non essential shops to check the corona pass of customer, so that only vaccinated, recovered or tested customers can come in.
This will mean for our little store that we have to work with a closed door and customers have to ring a doorbell so we can come and check their code. Because it just isn't practical for one of us to stand outside/at the door all day to check QR codes. We have an outside door, then a small entry way and then the shop door. When the shop's open the outside door is open. Currently there is no lock on the shop door. I'm all for putting a simple slide on the shop door, so we open and close it if a customer wants to enter and exit. The local hardware store has those for a couple of Euros. But my father wants to do it the hard way. Last night he was talking about a lock that will automatically lock when you close the door (it has push bars, not a handle). So when a customer exits the store they can unlock the lock themselves and it was lock when it's closed. Knowing my father he will now have decided he wants a system that we can push a button to unlock the door (though we still have to go to the door to check the QR code). Which is all nice, but it's a lot more expensive and more difficult to install. Plus you get the situation that when a customer enters or exits another customer might try to slip in before the door closes/locks. If one of us is at the door that's more easily preventable than when we're at the counter. Chances are we will end up with the outside door closed and we still have to go open it for customers (when you close it you need a key to open it from the outside). On the one hand I can understand why the government wants to implement this measure. On the other hand I'm not looking forward to the inevitable discussion and arguments. It's already difficult enough to get the customers to stay 1.5 meters apart and wear their face mask (properly). |

Here in Sydney we also have the ruling where a person must show their vaccination certificate, or on line Medicare app to prove they are double vaccinated in all non essential shops, restaurants and hotels etc And this will finally stop being a compulsory thing 15 December And now with the South African variant already here in Sydney, who knows what the next set of rules will bring. Not much fun constantly keeping aware of the rules and making sure you get it right, eh. |

Apart from my local pub, I am yet to be asked to show my vax status, or show that I checked in. Last evening we went to pharmacy to pick up some meds, and then to a restaurant - we didn't check-in, and we weren't asked for vax certs at either. However, I'm hoping they decide to retain mask wearing after Dec 15. It has a high rate of compliance without being heavily enforced; people even wear masks where they don't have to, I've seen people sitting at outdoor cafes wearing masks. |

Yesterday the government approved the use of QR codes for non-essential stores. Though it probably won't be implemented until the 15th. I can understand it, since the Dutch are stubborn and have a hard time following the rules. But it will cause a lot of stress. To be honest, I rather have a lockdown where we have to close the store again.
Since Saturday we have new rules. Non-essential businesses have to be closed between 5pm and 5am. So on weekdays we have to close an hour early, on Saturdays we already close at 5pm. The government refers to it as a "night lockdown", I'm not expecting it to help much. I'm currently not liking to work. Too much stress. We constantly have to remind people of the rules; not park their bikes in front of the store (so there's space for people to wait outside), for customers to put their masks on and keep their distance from each other and asking people to wait outside when we've reached the maximum number of customers. All these rules are posted multiple times btw. At the end of some days I get annoyed with myself and I feel like a huge nag. Last Saturday we had a customer shouting when we asked for proof of her not being able to wear a mask. Which is something we have to do by law (a lot of people who say they can't wear a mask don't have proof). When we asked her to leave she accused us of excluding her just because she can't wear a mask. No, we asked her to leave because of her behaviour. Luckily other customers agreed with us. The government has decided that if someone doesn't wear a mask in a store the store can get a warning, a €4000 fine or get closed for a period of time. The person not wearing the mask (unless they have proof the can't wear one) gets off free. |

What are the QR codes intended for?
Edit: Read before, I get it's for the COVID passport, as we call in Spain. |

From my side (in Spain), I really hope that they allow us not to wear masks soon (although I don't think before Spring). I'm very glad people find them useful and want to use them, but I don't like it to be forced on me.
