I can not afford to buy a new 13.3 inch eink tablet every year. Do you think Max Lumi can last 4-5 years of use. In the next 2 years I plan to use it about 10 hours per day since I am a phd student, and after that only in the evenings maximum 2-3 hours.

Thanks in advance.
If you're going to use it in the evenings I'd get the Max Lumi just for the front light alone. The Quaderno weights quite a bit less though, not sure how important that is for you.

Sorry, I know this post is old but I have a related issue with my Lumi.
Bought it in December 2020 and the battery used to last me 7-8 days.
I don't use the screen light very much, maybe 2-3h a week but lately I noticed a big drop in the battery and it lasts about 20h of activity without counting the sleep periods.(it's always on, of course). So that means that i need to charge every 2.5-3 days.
Is this normal for you guys? I has been only 6 months and relatively low use.
Thoughts? Thanks

I would contact support. It should still be under warranty.

20 of 60 hours active?
Is WiFi or Bluetooth switched off?
An app could continue to work.
A book could cause problems and prevent the sleep mode.
It could be normal.
How long does charging take from what percentage charge?

So is Mira a better alternative then?

Since max series dies with in 2 years then is Mira a better option? since it'll not require any battery?

Portable devices are often aggressively charged for user convenience. When permanently plugged in this often leads to swelled battery packs. If you are using something in a fixed installation (and maybe the battery is already shot), you might consider a "battery-ectomy". I have an old Nexus 7 tablet on my dashboard which has a regulated supply off the truck battery running into the tablet's battery section. Usually the USB connection by itself is not powerful enough to handle peak consumption.

You don't need another one. I have several ones because I was always more fascinated by the next release - you know e-book reader addiction. ^^ I recovered two years ago and now I will use them until they break. ;-)

So it's more of a planned obsolescence thing. If you are not less satisfied with the speed some day you can keep it for years. As far as I have seen the battery replacement is very cheap. You just have to do it yourself or find a friend who is good with it.

my max 2 is still working after 4 years, you just need to change the battery, the hardware will last to the point you will change the device before it dies.
