For me, the improvement from a 7 to 8 inch screen is the same as the degree of to which I prefer the 7 to 6 inch. It's funny because I don't think I'd want a 9 inch screen at all.

I thought I'd prefer an 8 inch screen prior to using one, but it turns out I underestimated how much I'd prefer it.
For me it's a compromise between the screen area and the ergonomics (i.e. I must feel comfortable holding my reader in one hand and not tire too quickly). A 8-incher is at the upper limit, any larger and it would be too big and heavy. Smaller than 7'' would have too small a screen. 7-8'' is the golden mean.

I find it annoying that e-readers that have temperature lights use such a blue cold temperature as the default. It seems like the uniformity is most consistent at the default setting and then the risk of irregularities is increased with warmer settings. I wish the default setting was more cold white instead of having a distinctly blue tint.

I could do away with the whole customizable temperature lighting if they just made the default a paper-like white or maybe slightly warmer, but I know some people actually read on the orange background setting.

I think I'm a little unusual in that I don't support the weight of the reader while reading. Being at home and not supporting the weight negates two of the key disadvantages that probably keeps people from going with the larger device.

I'm very nearsighted, and while I read with my glasses on, any other way besides not holding the reader myself is not comfortable for my eyes or my neck. And I have 3 cats. Keeping my reader on a desk or a table while reading is pretty dangerous for it. It might get jumped on or knocked off

I read lying on my back in bed with pillows propped under my neck and use a small two-inch tall pad about a foot from my eyes resting on my diaphragm.

Ah. I absolutely can't read lying down, no matter the position. Besides, the same issue with the cats would arise: the reader would get knocked off me!

The Sage looks pretty good. I like how the warm light is not nearly so amber.

My very first impression of the Sage is "why do people say Kobos are fiddly about cables?" I've never had a Kobo that didn't charge and/or connect with any old micro-USB cable, and right now my 5-minutes-opened Sage is charging with its supplied cable still in the box. The other first impression is "what I was worried about?" with the weight. The 50 grams it has over my Libra H20 do not feel like they're going to be problematic at all. So 2 from 2 for very first impressions. After I've charge myself up with caffeine, I'll have a play and see how it reads.

Congratulations on your new Sage. I would like to read your review of your unit

My Libra had problems with various cables when I first bought it. It got better after an update. And it refused to connect to my newest laptop via an adapter which my Oasis had no issues with. I had to buy a USB-2 hub solely for the Libra.

It won't be very helpful, unfortunately, because I don't notice/care for all the things that erreader geeks are apparently required by law to care about. Kerning, ligatures, hyphenation and how it looks under reading conditions that I will absolutely never use to name just a few.

My libra h2o also does not connect to my latop's usb 3 port. Fortunately my lappy still has one usb 2 port. My lilebook p78 connects on both usb 3 and usb 2 ports.

Being the born contrarian that I am, not only have I never had any cable/connectivity issues with the three different Kobos I've owned, I did have those issues with my last two Kindle PWs - very, very fussy about only connecting with their supplied cables (or with the one from my wife's PW after I lost mine). On such experiences are preferences built, I guess.

Heh. I've never had any cable issues with the many Kindles I've owned. Weird.

I used the phrase "born contrarian" advisedly - I'm told that most leave the birth canal head first, some wannabe contrarians try it feet first. Only the true pros try it transverse. Start as you mean to go on
