I’ve yet to break a substrate in any ereader, which includes several Kobos. It’s also worth noting they’ve made the glass substrates better over the years. And the möbius substrate was also not covered by the guarantee/warranty.

Do the substrates break? Sure. But I’d bet it’s not as common as folks seem to think. After all people aren’t going to post randomly “my ereaders screen is still fine” whereas when they break folks tend to post.

Also the person you quoted has a Kobo Aura 1 which doesn’t have the plastic substrate. They were asking for the Sage which of course also doesn’t have a plastic substrate.

All of which makes your initial and follow up replies nonsensical.

i was replying to post 390 someone letting me know the Sage as a glass substrate. i put i already know that. i also know the KA1 as a glass substrate. hence why my previous post at 389 says i'd liked an updated KA1 (if that happens is debatable) to have a flexible/plastic substrate. personally i'd like all e-readers regardless of screen size to have a flexible/plastic substrate, of course that's only my subjective preference.

objectively speaking which is more likely to break a glass substrate or a flexible/plastic substrate?

read from post 386 it should then hopefully make sense to you.

edit. having reread post 386 i now realise i put two an two together and got five. i thought the question that was being asked was what features would you like an updated KA1 to have which is why i put a flexible/plastic substrate at post 389. please accept my sincere apologies for making such a stupid mistake.

best wishes koboy

Your initial reply to post 386 is nonsensical since that poster is using a KA1, and is considering the Sage. Thus no plastic substrate to be considered in either device. Your follow up reply to someone telling you that the Sage doesn’t have a plastic substrate is nonsensical because you go on about how the glass substrates aren’t covered by the warranty, implying the plastic one is else why even state it since both substrates can (and have) broken.

To be clear I’m not confused about your posts. They just are nonsensical and add nothing of substance to the conversation. Had the Forma been in the conversation, or had you actually gone so far as to actually suggest the Forma in your initial reply siting the plastic substrate then perhaps it would be different.

reread the edit part of my last post for enlightenment.

btw. i didn't imply anything i stated that a glass substrate wasn't covered by the guarantee/warranty which is a fact and i also put that a glass substrate will break more easily than a flexible/plastic substrate which is also a fact.

I’m glad you see the error you made.

Btw you did imply it, since it’s as I said the plastic substrate isn’t covered by the warranty (which is a fact), to phrase it as you did implies that there’s a difference in the coverage between glass and plastic, when in fact there’s none.

You might not have intended to imply that, but none the less you did.

it definitely wasn't my intention. if it was i'd say so. it certainly was my intention to highlight that a flexible/plastic substrate would be more rugged/be able to take more force before breakage than a glass substrate.

once again my apologies to one and all for unintentionally diverting this thread.

best wishes koboy

The battery testing is in-line with what I'm getting, which is abysmal.

100% --> 12% with 4.1 hours of reading, WiFi 98% of the time off, frontlight on 10-15%, automatic sync off.

My initial finding: 3+45 hrs. reading, WiFi (always) off, lighting on @ 25-30%, battery 98% -> 91%. Too early to draw a conclusion. Have you already tried a reset?

EDIT: My apologies. The above applies to 4.29.18730. That will teach me not to skip through posts!

I don't know what is the problem but with this last firmware the battery drains very very very fast. In only 30 minutes reading pass from 50% to 34% of battery. Is terrific. WiFi and Bluetooth off and light only 15%

Try a manual reset. That fixed my drain issue with the Libra2

I disabled devmode with devmodeoff and now is better the power drain. But I don't understand the relation...or is casualty.

In many devices, dev-mode does things like keep the device awake forever, keep the screen on, and so on. When developing, the device is mostly connected to a computer and thus powered, and you don't want it to go to sleep on you every 30 seconds.

Which device does devmode keep awake forever? I use it all the time and it is not the case for any of mine devices (excluding the Sage as I don't have enough experience to judge). There are options in the developer options, such as "Force WiFi ON", that will do this, but even that means the WiFi doesn't automatically disconnect and doesn't stop sleeping. There may have been problems with some firmware versions, but, I don't remember it happening for years.
