Yeah, there are pet bereavement cards, I'll get her one of those. I told her to know that I love her and would hug her if I were there.

Just drove the truck, one and a half years old, not a scratch on it, out of the underground parking at our complex, when the automatic door comes crashing down on the roof. Like RM we got hit from above, not by hailstones, but by a big metal garage door.

4 days in the shop. $300.00 deductible, everyone in the complex is pished at *us* because be broke the door and no one can enter or leave until the repair guys get here to fix the dang thing, including I hope, the sensors that are supposed to stop this from happening.

WDE.
Your condo association should have insurance to cover things like that. If the sensor failed and the door came down on your truck, that is not something you did ... it was done to you.

File a claim with the insurance company that covers the condo buildings and other structures for property damage. You should be able to get the contact information and policy number from your condo board.

Would it make sense for WDE's insurance company to contact the condo building's insurance company?

There is a lot of contacting and emailing going on. We're waiting to hear who is responsible for what and who should be talking to whom. Somehow this will get straightened out. Thanks for all of the suggestions.

The first dent on a vehicle is always the hardest. We were laughing about it tonight and have already arranged for repairs. We have to get it repaired quickly because there is so much rain at this time of year and we are afraid it might leak inside the truck cab. We're not going to let an inanimate object upset us any more than it already has.

It depends. If he makes a claim through his own insurance company, then, yes, they will generally process the claim and then look to the other company for compensation.

However, the problem is that you still end up having a claim on your policy. Now, as a condo owner, WDE is actually a secondary insured under the condo association policy (assuming he's an owner ... not so sure about the status of renters).

The only reason I know anything about this at all is that I was the president of my condo association back in San Diego. We had to deal with claims against the association policy all the time for damages caused by common area problems.

Example, underground parking, pipe breaks and drips rusty water onto very nice convertible. Covered under our policy.

USAA takes the stand that they have a lot more time and skill in getting the gelt out of other insuracne companies than I do, so they will make the payment to me and them sick their legion of undead lawyers on the other party on my behalf. I've never had an increase in premium from something not my fault.

Well, that's a good reason for sticking with USAA. Most of the private sector insurance companies won't go quite that far.

USAA is indeed a great company. Which only makes pshrynk's typo/braino above even more funny -- an insur-acne company???

It was my understanding that USAA was founded as an insurance company specifically for Federal Employees and the members of the Armed Services.

It is (or was for many many years) subject to special rules and restrictions and was not open for investment by the general public.

Most "private sector" insurance companies (unless they are held by a closed corporation) are open to investment by the general public.
