That possibly leaves the fact that, if we go by our PocketBook experience, sunxi SoCs really like to murder batteries if you don't suspend aggressively (as in, *while* reading). I kind of hate the feature, because it ruins interactivity, though, which is why I never really bothered to implement it in KOReader .

I'll probably do some more experiments when I have some free time in a few months, because doing it right and getting it to behave is... quirky.

How is Elipsa to hold in the hands?
Especially: is it light enough to hold in one hand for half an hour?

I find the Libra a good size and weight to hold - its made me read ALOT more than even my sweet little Galaxy Note 8 Tablet

CONTEXT OF QUESTION

The only problem with the Libra size is PDFs with wider texts.
I prefer slightly larger text ((14-)16 pts) but some of my important books are too wide for that.

But my current Libra has another problem - which is why I'm considering Elipsa.

Only 6.7 GB of memory - far from enough for me.

So I was looking at the Sage, but found out the screen is barely bigger than the Libra (2cm down, 1.5 cm across).

If the Elipsa is comfortable enough to hold, it might kill both birds: (even tho its well outside my preferred price range):
- 32 GB
- big enough for those PDFs,and maybe even my my large textbook PDFs (with all the graphs and images - tho they will be in b&w).

Plus I've been a little interested in a Remarkable-style device, but couldnt justify the price for just the writing feature on its own. I will be studying again soon though, so that might be useful.

It's not heavy if you take it out of the case. The case comes in two parts, the bottom part that the Elipsa snaps into, and the top cover that's held on to the bottom part with magnets. With it just in the bottom part, without the top cover, it's still quite heavy. When you take it out of the bottom part it's quite reasonable to hold. I now use it all the time, instead of the forma, for reading books.

I have severe arthritis and small hands, always painful, and I still can read on my Elipsa comfortably for hours on end while seated. I use both hands though, as I would with a book, and I also rest it on my thighs. It is still more comfortable than reading a book. I couldn't read it one handed while standing in public transport as I used to with the Clara, but I gave that to a cousin because I much prefer the 7" Libra on the go. With my old eyes 6" is too small, as is the pitch on many of my old paperbacks.

Can anyone recommend a 3rd party cover that is not as bulky as the original one? The previews on Amazon don't paint the full picture IMO.

Thanks guys....that's useful to know!

I guess its not too much of a sacrifice to read with both hands if you're reading a big PDF.

As I said I do have two Libras (to fit all my books), so I'd only need to use it for big PDFs or if I want to be sure to be able to find the book I want without wondering which Libra its on.

Elipsa: drawbacks to investigate?

Can anyone dot-point for me any drawbacks of the Elipsa I should investigate?
I might not be able to see one at the local store and might have to pre-order

You can't draw/annotate on your own PDFs and epubs (i.e not bought from Kobo)?

I just read this in a couple of places.

If so, my chances of buying this device just went from 60% to 0%.

You can draw on sideloaded PDFs but not on sideloaded epubs / kepubs.

I annotate on both sideloaded epub and pdf, (including converted .azw => epub).

This is NOT true. I annotate on sideloaded epubs and pdfs routinely.

Weird. On some of them I can annotate and on some not. I wonder what the difference is. Maybe the ones which I converted via kepubify can't? Or the ones I transferred in the past?

EDIT
So I just found out. The battery in my stylus is already depleted, this is why I can sometimes not annotate...

Some concerns about the Elipsa: lag, capacity to export annotated PDFs.

Thanks for the info - I confirmed with Kobo you can annotate NON-DRM sideloaded PDFs and ePUB.

I'm concerned about several issues though:

1. Is it still laggy when writing, as seen in videos?

2. Some have said you can't import a PDF, annotate on it (in handwriting) and EXPORT that PDF back to your computer.

3. Can you draw a 'box' or 'loop' around writing and move it?

As @Skydog, you are supposed to be able to use the stylus to annotate sideloaded PDFs and ePubs. And people reported they could with the Elipsa. But, there appears to be a bug in the firmware on the Sage that means you cannot use the stylus to annotate ePubs. That has been reported to Kobo and it should be being fixed. But, I always recommend that people who see problems report them so that Kobo (or for that matter, any developer of software with bugs) know that it isn't an isolated problem and that people think it is important.
