I imagine there was some kind of mix up in Kobos shipping department. My device had a shipping label printed on the 18th, but I only saw movement on it today. Sadly it was to tell me to check tomorrow for an estimated delivery time.

I'm in Canada and the Kobo site says the Sage is Sold Out... Checked Best Buy and also says not available. Guess I will have to wait...

Mine was delivered to my work's main post office, didn't make it to my building until 2pm or so. Haven't had a chance to unbox it yet, also had something for my guitar come in after a 7 month wait. Almost a mini xmas.

As I saw others have been able to use Microsoft Surface pens with their Elipsa devices, I am using one I had handy on the Sage and it works great in regular notetaking on Kobo store book files and it also works on the note taking app, but, in my experience thus far, notetaking does not work on any files sideloaded - regardless of epub or kepub formats.

I re-formatted the files via calibre into new epubs and new kepubs, but still could not take notes on any of these files.

Anyone else experiencing this or having success?

Update: Tested with PDF and writing notes on PDF works really well and smooth. I did a factory reset to see if it was the firmware that downloaded at the time I set up the device, but factory reset went back to that firmware (ver 4.29.18730 from 18 Oct) - not back to what was on the device when I received it. When I went to see if I could annotate a sideloaded kepub after this, the following popup came up (I saw this yesterday, but closed it without reading by accident)"

Have a look at the Elipsa threads. What can and can't be annotated with the pen is discussed there. It will be the same for the Sage.

Annotations to side-loaded epubs on the Elipsa w/Kobo stylus work very well. I would guess the same applies to side-loaded kepubs, although I do not use the format.

I don't think that the stylus works with sideloaded kepubs. I remember someone questioning why. I don't know if it changed later.

Update:

I just got done with Kobo support. They assured me that it does work, but " third party books will still not be fully guaranteed since we didn't code them".

I told them to send me an epub/kepub file that they tested with then. They said they couldn't do that, but I could download a free ebook that is non-drm from the Kobo store.

I downloaded Pride and Prejudice, which is listed as DRM-FREE EPUB and the person I was working with agreed this should work. It didn't. As a comparison I sideloaded the epub and i downloaded a copy from the Kobo store via the cloud. Notetaking/markup worked great on the version downloaded via the cloud and, again, it failed 100% on the version downloaded and side loaded. On the side loaded version the pen would turn the page if i swiped it left/right, but no markup at all was able to be performed.

I have been told that my case has been transferred with an upper team so they can investigate more. Once they get an update, they will get back to me via e-mail.

For elipsa, markup on epub was working and this patch via kobopatch seemed to resolve the kepub issues for users. With Sage, from my experience, it looks like the broke sideloading markup for everything except PDF with the latest firmware. Not sure if this now breaks it for elipsa also.
