If buying a new ereader and the choice is between a Forma and a Sage: no doubt about it, go for the Sage.
It is very responsive and I very much like the look of the front that is one continuous surface of which the screen is just one part and the two buttons another part. None of those ridges that the Forma has. Also, the screen is just perfect with better uniform lighting than the forma and more contrast.
And all this from someone who thought that the Forma was the best ereader he owned thus far.
I am happy with my Forma but I would know if Sage's improvements, compared to Forma, are worth the 300 euro

If this information below were true, the device would be a 9.5 inch device, not 8.

You can calculate the dimensions of the display yourself, based on the resolution and pixel density.

The Sage (like the Forma) has a 1440 x 1920 pixel resolution at 300ppi (PPI = Pixel Per Inch).

1440 divided by 300 is 4,8.
1920 divided by 300 is 6,4.

So the dimensions of the display are 4,8" x 6,4" (or 122 x 163 mm).

If not, then thanks for the heads-up!)

The Sage screen not much bigger than the Libra

1.5 cm more across the top
2 cm more along the side

This is hardly going to make a difference in viewing those PDFs with wider text, from my initial evaluation

14% larger diagonally and 31% larger by area as a 16x9 display.

14% larger diagonally and 31% larger by area as a 4x3 display.

With PDFs, the overall screen real estate is not the issue.
Its being able to fit in the WIDTH of the columns without making the text too small.

The other day I did a trial with a PDF - just a standard PDF with slightly wider columns.

Even an extra inch added down the side (for horizontal reading) would still not quite be enough for me.

(I like my text (14-) 16 pts)

I am considering splashing out on Elipsa.
(and am feeling slightly crazy even thinking about it!)

Ive just put a question on the other thread about hold-comfort.

You need a 10-inch ereader. Try the Ellipsa

That is a contradiction. The larger the screen real estate, the more likely you are to be able to fit the PDF into it in a size that is readable.

Your posts seem to be comparing the Sage to the Libra 2 for PDF performance. I'm not sure why because the Sage has the same screen size as the Forma. PDFs on the Forma has been discussed plenty of times, especially when it was new. And it came up again when the Elispa came out as a comparison. The basic conclusion was that the 8" screen size was better than the smaller screens, but, still not great. The recommendation has always been for a larger screen size for PDFs.

Are there any direct comparison(s) of features/desirability between the Sage and Kobo Aura One?

I think the uniformity of lighting of the Sage is a major improvement of that of the Forma. I guess thanks to the glass covering.
I tried to make a picture of the light with both sliders about half-way.

Does the sage come with preinstalled screen protector? Or the stylus is soft enough not to scratch the screen?

Any chance you can post a picture with a book open?
