Write financial ones in an address book never kept with the laptop/tablet/phone. Put all in that. Different long password for every site and email and only let the browser store sites with no personal or financial data. Master aka Main password on the browser.

No doubt. That still doesn't make it at all likely that someone who is not familiar with someone's password-ing habits can sit down at a computer, look at the vacation pictures on the desk--the general decor of the room--and nail it two tries like many fictional investigators seem to be able to do. Just watched a show where a coworker (trying to log into another's email account) chewed on their lip for 15 seconds, typed the word "kabuki" and was in in one.

Revive this thread because I came across a situation in 2 books recently read and would like to hear opinions about this

Do people in real life that are in the middle of taking a shower stop mid shower to go answer the door because someone rings the bell?

How about leaving the shower to answer the phone?

For me finishing the shower is more important than rushing trailing water and suds to go to the door, or the phone, whoever that is can wait or came back later.

I'd say finish the shower. That's what answering machines are for.

Why should a hacker even go to that much trouble. Some yrs back I ended up having to change passwords etc. including banking info. Somehow a keylogger malware got onto my computer and someone tried to access my bank account (my bank caught it so they didn't get a penny). I sometimes wonder how secure our computers really are if something like that can sneak in.

Never for the phone. It's the 21st century; text me.

Very occasionally for the door, but only if I'm expecting a parcel that absolutely requires a signature.

Never. If my friends or family call me, I'll call them back after the shower. As to the doorbell, don't care. Friends, family and couriers with parcels never come without prior notice.

I definitely have for the door, and still would. The few callers recently are people I didn't want to miss. For the phone, it has changed. When it was just a landline, I would, but I wouldn't for a mobile.

Also, it depends on who else is at home and in what state. I have rushed out of the shower so that they wouldn't wake my wife when she was sick or had a migraine.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the scenario I gave and how it applies to the original question of the thread.

In real life, real people do not guess passwords as quickly/easily as fictional characters tend to guess passwords. The End.

As to the most recent question: No and no. Don't much care who's at the door or who's on the phone. Besides, why stub/break a toe (or worse!) getting there when I probably won't make it to the door or the phone in time anyway?

I also do not try to answer either when in the shower. I can call back a caller, if I wish. The person knocking will call or come back if it was important.
