Even if you wait, there's no guarantee you're getting new stock or the left-overs from the initial release.
My Forma I got about 18 months after release; there's a faint darker shadow by the strip, but I barely notice it. It certainly doesn't interfere with my reading, any more than the spine crease does in a paper book. |

I have both the Oasis 2 and the Kobo Forma. I love my Oasis but the Forma is a lovely device, and my preferred e-reader at the moment. The Oasis is a premium device but I do find that the software on my kobo is much easier to use. I keep my Oasis for Amazon ebooks but everything else gets read on my Forma. I would replace my Forma if anything happens to it but I would not replace my Oasis. And yes I want a Sage too.

Yes, this was something I thought of when I bought my Libra, more than a year after its release. Kobo is a tiny bit player here and so it's quite likely that my Libra was part of that "1.0" shipment. Waiting that long does at least give time for firmware updates to ameliorate some of the grosser anomalies found in zero-day releases ![]() |

I think software is a very personal thing. Kindle software works far better for me. I have vision problems. I have a collection for each author. I sideload all books with calibre so I can have the titles displayed in a way I can read them. Series - Series Number - Book Title. Everything is set to display as text no covers and in alphabetical order. Display text even adjusted to the large font is difficult to read at times. Reading a cover would be a nightmare. Once reading a book the correct font makes reading a dream.
I never use the buttons on my Oasis, or on any previous Kindle either. I tap the screen with my thumb to change pages. It is pretty much muscle memory now. Nor do I use a book-like cover. I have a very cute decal skin and a zip-up bag to pop it and my glasses in when not using. Another one of my quirks. I will always miss the smell of dead trees, but a small price to pay to have the ability to read again. |

Disappointed to see the Libra 2 with an indented screen still. That was the one thing I hope they would change. Don't see a compelling reason to upgrade from the Libra 1 as I have no need for audiobook support. The supposedly better contrast is nice but need to see how much of an improvement it is.

Comparison weights to mull over:
The Kobo Forma weighs 197 grams (6.95 ounces). The Kobo Sage weighs 241 grams (8.50 ounces). The Ipad Mini (Wi-Fi only) weighs 293 grams (10.34 ounces). Does anyone feel that the Ipad Mini is just a tad too heavy? For me, it's not so much the weight of the Sage, but the unknown quality of the screen. Last edited by Dr. Drib; 10-14-2021 at 11:33 AM. |

And as I said before, remember that a Forma doesn't necessarily need a cover, which saves a lot more weight again. |

As someone who has neither, I don't see a compelling reason to choose the 2 over the 1. I kinda like the design of the 1 better. But I have heard the buttons are sucky, so an upgrade to that would be nice. The USB-C and 32GB are nice to haves, but not enough to influence my buying decision. |

The power button for the Forma is super bad. But it's the only problem I have with it's buttons.

That's right. Now I remember. Someone was suggesting a sleep cover because the power button (on someone's unit) was almost impossible to use. A few others mentioned that they had that same issue. Thanks for the correction. Sorry I got it wrong.
