Hi,
In the Complete Works of Plato there are...many works! ![]() Right now, using the following in the header for Epub to PDF conversion

_TITLE_, _SECTION_

on page one of the Republic I see: Complete Works, Republic and on page two: Complete Works, Book I And, so it goes. Without knowing what the work is it's pretty easy to get lost. Book I of...what? In a collected work such as this, is there any value I can add to the PDF converted output header fields so that the subsequent pages would read: Complete Works, Republic, Book I So that the _TITLE_ of the individual book included within the collected works is itself also shown in the header. Use _TOP_LEVEL_SECTION_ as described here: https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/con...verting-to-pdf

Hello Dr. Goyal!
Please can I ask a follow up? I'm stuck reading some clunky academic text with REALLY long chapters. I can see many "subsection" headings within the chapters as I read. Things like "Orwell's World" "The Spanish Civil War" these are just SUB-headings in otherwise VERY long chapters. Now, the subheadings themselves, are NOT within the table of contents. Using _TOP_LEVEL_SECTION_ DOES grab the INITIAL sub-sections of the book. But, what about these OTHER wee smaller subsections? Basically bolded sub-sub-divisions of the chapter, but that aren't noted in the table of contents. Any way to get these into the header? Sincerely, Blaine |

Use _SECTION_ but it will only correspond to sections in the table of contents. You can thave sections not in the table of contents in the header/footer.

Hi, Kovid!
Ah! Got it. OK. If it's not in the TOC then it can't get into the header/footer. Hmmm...what if I EDITED the table of contents. Would that work? Sincerely, Blaine |

As long as something is in the ToC you can add it via _SECTION_ it doesnt matter how it got into the ToC.
