Kobo: Which Libra?

I think the Elipsa makes very little sense compared to the Sage, unless you want a screen that is 2.3 inches larger, but has fewer pixels, is much heavier, and thus more unwieldy.
If you already want a Kobo Notes device, then the Sage is clearly preferable in my eyes.
And if you want to know my attitude, I have Likebook Ares for that - the Kobos can't do enough for me.

Yeah I was able to compare the Libra H20 (193g) with my Paperwhite (213g). It's a noticeable difference. The Libra 2 is even slightly heavier than the PW (215g). The H20's comparative lightness is much appreciated by me, and for comparison purposes I'm a reasonably strong male with no physical disabilities (only mental ones, so far). So the H20 might offer a really significant advantage for you vs. the Libra 2.

And beyond the weight itself, I just like the weight distribution of the H20, with most of the weight being on the side you're holding. Better center of gravity/mechanical advantage/leverage, etc., for one handed use particularly. I assume the Libra 2, being more uniform in thickness, that the weight distribution will be more uniform also.

The 1200 comes from the screen which is Eink's latest rendition of their Carta screens. To quote from Eink's site:

E Ink Carta™ 1200 delivers a 20% increase in response time over E Ink Carta 1000, and an improvement in the contrast ratio of 15%.

I would expect the display to have the on cell touch and, for the Sage, the digitizer layer under the display so you will be looking through fewer layers which should maximize contrast and sharpness.

I am thinking of getting the Libra 2 to replace my Aura h2o version 1.

The deal breakers for me are the 1500mAh battery and the 32GB memory, although I don't listen to audiobooks. However, I wonder if the 32GB memory actually works, because on my Aura H2O (ver1), if I load more than 1000 books via Calibre, the device starts to crash frequently.

The main culprit is the KoboReader.sqlite file which gets too big (300+MB) so it's corrupted frequently. It's so bad that I have to limit the numbers of ebooks on my device to under 500 books (which use less than 1GB of memory) and turn off the epub->kepub auto conversion feature (i.e. untick Enable Extended Kobo feature in the KoboTouchExtended)

I wonder if the Libra H2O or later H2O versions have this same problem.

I have had up to 2200 books on my Libra H20 without issues, although it was hardly lightning fast with that number on board.

1000 books is not very many. I have about 9000 on my Clara HD with no issues. A 300MB database seems a bit big. The Clara HD is less than 200MB when I checked recently. Unless you have a lot of annotations and very long descriptions, I don't know how that can be. You could try compressing it and see if that helps. But, I'm fairly sure I have had over 2000 books an all of my devices, including the Aura H2O, at one time or another without any issues (maybe not the Touch as it does not have much storage).

I would actually wonder if this is a sign the SD card in the device is failing. There are plenty of reports like this which are fixed by replacing the SD card. I had something similar with the Glo. Putting a new card in it made it like new.

And why is the 1500mAh battery a deal breaker? That is what is in your Aura H2O. Or have I misunderstood your use of "deal breaker"? Usually it means something that prevents a deal from being made. But, the rest of the sentence sort of suggests the opposite.

I have 4048 on my Clara, all kepub. No issues.

With my Clara HD with it's 128GB μSD card, I currently have 13,300 books (basically both my ebooks and my wife's ebooks). It is noticeably slower than when it only had 300 books on it when searching but that is only to be expected, IMNSHO. The first results still pop up as I type the search in but it can take a couple of seconds longer for all the results to populate. Still beats the pants off of searching the bookshelves of paper books looking for a specific title.

Thank you for all the responses. I have no clue why my Aura H20 crashes so frequently. The big sqlite file might be because I keep long synopses for the books(???) or because I like to load the Delphi Classic Collection books (which are 15+MB in size with lots of sub books) and lots of Vietnamese books (in Unicode). I have tried to compress the database, reset and reload files, etc.. and as soon as the number of books gets large (1000+), it starts to crash again. The only thing I have not done is to replace the internal SD card.

Well, I think it's time for a new reader anyway since I have had the Aura H2o for 6 years and used it everyday.

The Libra 2 weights 215g. 215g is 7.58oz. So it's less then 1/2 a pound. That is not all that heavy. The other advantage is that every eBook weights exactly the same.

Jon, no it isn't all the heavy. Until it becomes to heavy. You apparently are healthy and have no issues with strength in your hands and arms. There are plenty of people who do have problems. There are plenty of people who have enough problems with holding things that every extra gram causes a problem. And then there are the lazy ones amongst us (including me) that just don't want to do the work of holding up those extra few grams.

For the record, I have no interest in having weeks and weeks of battery life. A few days of my normal reading is enough. I would have no issue if Kobo reduced the battery size to reduce the overall weight, but, I know others would be horrified and think it was a sign of the apocalypse. And, about the only use I can see for the longer battery life is for when the Zombie apocalypse happens. Of course, I'll probably be to busy to worry about reading. Or interested for that matter. I expect to be stumbling around going "BRAAIIINNNNSSSS".

And to horrify you even more. I once recommended that someone buy one of the original Oasis models. After discussing their problems with holding things, that was the only ereader that was likely to allow them to read for any reasonable amount of time. I know you think it is the worst design of any ereader, but, as that isn't the only thing you are wrong about, so you should be OK with that.
