I lived there for a year and a half in the 80's. That's where I picked up the habit of shaking out my shoes before I put them on. Oh, and I learned to drive drunk going to the store to get more beer without getting pulled over. That was back when the legal drinking age was 18.

I once watched the Alamo for hours. Aside from the vendors selling T-shirts, it was pretty boring. The T-shirts had a picture of The Lens on the front...

I also once watched the Alamo for hours. I snapped a photo of it about every 30 seconds and then pulled out my laptop, and created a composite photo of the Alamo, in the middle of the day, with no people in front of it.

And did you also learn to drive down the shoulder of the highway like it was another lane? A scary but common practice here outside of the major cities.

I am not a Texan, nor do I play one on TV. But my best friend's father is an Admiral in the Texas Navy. (Really, no joke.) Is that close enough?

Xenophon

P.S. I also love the Austin Lounge Lizards. And especially their song "Just Another Stupid Texas Song."

Absolutely common practice here ... in fact it's expected. If you are only doing 80, then you better damn well do it on the shoulder of the road so that everyone else can fly by you doing 100.
