The Oasis 3 is a wonderful ebook reader. It has evolved since its initial inception from the first Oasis. I would buy another one if mine began to fail.
In my opinion, nothing beats the Voyage screen, but the current Oasis comes very close. Mine is beautifully lit, balanced in my hand, and feels great to read upon. It doesn't have that 'hardback smell' that sends shivers up and down my spine similar to orgasmic bliss. I understand there exist Book Brothels in some larger cities where one pays to purchase 'books', and where strangers sit on comfortable 'couches' sipping hot 'drinks' called 'cappuccinos'. They eat strangely baked 'cookies' and other types of 'food'. Full disclosure: I recently visited one of these places, hidden in a darkened alley where strange grunts and growls echoed around me. I finally found the place and entered. When I looked around in wonderment, I occasionally saw furtive glances pass between two or more strangers as someone 'fondled' his or her books. When no one was looking, I too picked up a book and did the same thing. People may 'purchase' books from strangely garbed individuals with outrageous facial hair who stand behind counters looking bored. This is a pretext, however, as they are quite anxious to take 'money' in exchange for books, but they do so only after quick glances left and right to ascertain that no one is looking. They put them in paper bags so that the general population will not become frightened if the contents are inadvertently revealed through some mishap or other. It's definitively a strange place, in my opinion. So you see, no ebook reader - in my opinion - smells great. It just IS, and it resides in a place separate from, yet conjoined with, some form of reality. Of course, these are my opinions and your opinions (not facts) may vary. I wish I could tell you what my drill sergeant said about opinions, but I'll leave it to your imagination. My drill sergeant never mentioned facts. Last edited by Dr. Drib; 10-03-2021 at 08:44 AM. |

Based on these facts, it is my opinion, that there won't be another Oasis. The concept is not viable anymore, Amazon has given no indication, that they are still interesested in it and with the introduction of the new Paperwhite, there are little arguments left for it. Counter arguments we have collected so far: - But I like it!!! - Page-turn buttons!!! - The Oasis mated with another Oasis and magically evolved on its own!!! |

It is your opinion that the current Oasis is not lightweight or ergonomic. It is not a fact. Also it is your opinion that it has massive design flaws, not a fact. (I couldn't care less about a detachable cover and in fact never bought or used one with either Oasis 2 or Oasis 3; and more than one people in this thread have said they like the metal back.) Personally I consider the current Oasis to be both lightweight and ergonomic. That you don't, doesn't make your opinion a fact. Last edited by Sirtel; 10-03-2021 at 10:09 AM. |

isn't it odd that no Oasis seem to be available to purchase on Amazon.com ? Only the international versions. (or is it because I'm connected from Canada?)

It becomes evident, that you don't know what a fact or an opinion is.
Or rather that you try to downplay facts as opinion, when you don't like them. I will add this to the list of counter-arguments: - But I like it!!! - Page-turn buttons!!! - The Oasis mated with another Oasis and magically evolved on its own!!! - Every fact, that I don't like, is just an opinion!!! Quote:
But that is the beauty of facts. You can prove them. You are saying that the Oasis is particulary lightweight and ergonomic, then please, show that to us. Quote:
It is a fact, that the Oasis 2 was supposed to have a detachable cover. It is a fact, that it does not have one (anymore) because of a design flaw. (Magnets, that were too weak to hold the detachable cover securely.) It is your opinion, that you don't care about this. Quote:
It is the first one "But I like it!!!". It does not change the fact, that the Oasis 2/3 has a metal backside, that most people have described as a bit slippery. |

You can say a thousand times that the Oasis is not ergonomic. That doesn't make it so. You want to think it is so, be my guest. You have a right to your opinion. And I haven't said that my opinion about the ergonomics of the Oasis is a fact. It's an opinion and as such, cannot be proven. Just like yours. |

The Oasis has continued to evolve and advance.
The screen on the Oasis 2 was made larger than on the first generation. Additional changes took place. Any changes that happened are facts. Writing about why changes take place are simply guesses and opinions on your part. Also on the Oasis 2, the cover was redesigned in the way that it fits on the reader. Further advances incorporated more lights and a slightly larger battery. In other words, these are tweaks. Just because something is redesigned does not necessarily denote failure of the earlier model. When you characterize these changes in the way that you have done so, then you are expressing opinions. To say that the Oasis 2 is a failure (again, your opinion) because of what you term "massive design flaws" is - as stated - simply your opinion about the Oasis 2, opinions which you carry forth on your discussion of the Oasis 3. You are absolutely welcome to have opinions, just as other individuals can have differing opinions. FACT: The Oasis has a 'bump' on the back. OPINION A: I find it difficult to hold. It's uncomfortable to hold. OPINION B: I like the way I can hold it in my hands. It's very comfortable. Last edited by Dr. Drib; 10-03-2021 at 02:41 PM. |

Now you are saying facts are opinions, so you can chicken out and don't have to proof your statements. It is very much possible to proof wether something is ergonomic to the human body. Metals don't change their properties, based on how much you like them. We have invented scales to measure things. I have proven to you, that the original Oasis was exceptionally lightweight and ergonomic. So get going. Proof to us, that the current Oasis still is. Quote:
I cannot know for sure what is to come, but I base my opinion on pretty solid facts, that I have listed above. If you have any facts, that indicate something else, please share them with us. We have collected these counter-arguments so far: - But I like it!!! - Page-turn buttons!!! - The Oasis mated with another Oasis and magically evolved on its own!!! - Every fact, that I don't like, is just an opinion!!! An example: my sister bought a supposedly very ergonomic pillow. And she liked it. But her husband couldn't sleep with that pillow at all. So, if it's possible to predict the ergonomics of things to the smallest details, why was the pillow not comfortable for him? You argue that it's the fact that the current Oasis is not ergonomic and the logical conclusion is, everyone should therefore find it uncomfortable to hold. But many people don't. Why is that? Quote:
You're stating that what you believe are facts, not opinions. Prove that the Oasis is not ergonomic, then. So far you've said nothing to prove that. Yes, you've said that it's not as lightweight and ergonomic as the first version was, but no one is arguing with that. Of course it isn't. That doesn't mean it's NOT ergonomic, or that it's a failure. You, of course, think so, but you have proved nothing so far. Last edited by Sirtel; 10-03-2021 at 04:15 PM. |

Instead of coming up with any arguments yourself, you just repeat what I said, with a "No, you are!!!". I asked you to proof your statements. Instead of doing so, you falsely claim that I have not proven mine... But I have explained the Oasis concept to you. I have given you the facts, that made the original Oasis particulary lightweight and ergonomic. I have given you the facts, why the Oasis 2/3 does not fulfill this concept anymore. Go back and read up on them yourself. I am not going to constantly repeat myself, just for you to ignore it again. Quote:
I did not say that it cannot be comfortable to hold and I did not say, that people should or cannot like it. I said, that it lost almost everything, that once made it particulary ergonomic. (Again, see previous posts...) And that this is one of the reasons, why I believe, Amazon won't pursue this concept any further. |
