Why do covers of PDF books disappear?

depends on what you mean by "disappear".

example: if you open .mobi books, kindles often automatically skip the cover. if you then turn one page back, you see the cover.

if you convert the pdf somehow, the software you use for that could remove the cover. some tools have settings for that.

but without more information about what exactly happens, we can't really help you.

The cover image of any PDF book I upload with Calibre does not appear. However, I select and edit the covers of all of them via Calibre. But when I sideload it to my Kindle, they all look like in the picture, idk why. Please help me.

that's normal. it also happens with .mobi files etc. - even if you have added them in calibre. Kindles can't read / show the cover image you see in calibre. if i remember right, Kindles only show that cover for books buyed from the amazon kindle store (based on the isbn?).

Example: i have a file that i buyed from the kindle store, and if i sideload this file.. it shows the cover. but if i sideload another book, it doesn't.

i don't think there is a (easy?) way of changing that behaviour.

PDFs are considered Docs, and not books.

(This is not about the 'vanishing cover' issue from about 1 year ago, which updates to calibre solved. That was a different issue.)
