[GUI Plugin] Find Duplicates

The issue you are facing is probably related to how the plugin re-partitions the duplicates based on exemptions list. I don't have the time right now to dig deeper into it. Maybe will return to this in the future.

My guess is that if you remove all the exemptions (after backing them up), the problem will disappear. You can backup the settings this way: Find Duplicates > Customize Plugin > View library preferences > copy the preferences to a text file.

You are right, I have deleted all the exemptions and it took 5 seconds for the extension to get the results. Is there a way to do a "manual rearrange" those exemptions so the extension doesn't go crazy?

I have duplicate books, three copies of some and I want to merge them.

For example, I have three copies of a book (two in .mobi and one in .epub).
I'm thinking of using 'merge into first selected book - keep others'.
I don't want to delete any of the books in case the only one I keep has errors in it.

If I merge all the books into one (say it's one of the .mobi) and discover that book has errors, how would I choose one of the other books that has been merged, either the other .mobi or .epub and send that to my device?

Just tried 'merge into first selected book - keep others' and what I thought would happen, didn't, I was still left with 3 books.

So it looks like 'merge only formats into first selected book - delete others' is what I need to use but I don't exactly know what will be happening when I have two .mobi and one .epub, what will be happening to the two .mobi when they are merged, as I would like to keep both .mobi in case of errors in any of the copies I have?

You can only have one copy of any particular format per calibre book entry. So it is not possible to have two MOBI formats together.

I didn't know that.

I'm going to use 'merge only formats into first selected book - delete others' and leave it at that.

Any idea on how I choose which format I want to send to my device when the formats are merged?
As I have a Kindle, .mobi is default but if I wanted to choose the .epub format of a merged book how would I go about it?

The device driver offer the Preferred order when more than on exists .
BUT when you right click on the Send to device (or the send to folder) you have choices. (Even View has this option)

I have the latest version of Calibre and I don't seem to have the choices you mention when I click on Send to Device.
I don't have the option to pick which format I would like to send when there are two available.

Run Library Maintenance.
I have a feeling Calibre lost track of what was stored (or someone messed beneath the skirts and added formats)
FWIW the choice is also on the icon

What OS (and Calibre version), because this has bee available in windows for multiple TOP LEVEL calibres 2,3,4,5

Sorry, what I meant to say was, I do have the option of 'send specific format to' but no formats are shown for me to choose from.

Run both phases of Check Library (you shoud do this once in a while even if you are not seeing issues . Phase 1 clears deadwood records from deletes or changes, phase 2 looks for mis matched vs file system found entries

What does Save to Disk offer (save single format...)?
BTW AFAIK, this only shows known book formats:PDF, Mobi, EPUB...)
