In August I purchased one book (currently reading) and read four. However, only one was purchased the others were freebies and library loans. No change in total TBR.

Our arrangement has always been, since the days I worked 70 hour weeks, that she could buy whatever books she wanted. I think having to pack and move 900 books might temper her purchases for at least a few months.
Only if she also unpacks them immediately. Otherwise, there will be all these empty bookshelves begging to be filled with new books.

I bought four books in August. All long-standing wishlist books, all discounted, and none were the first book in a series. I've already finished two of them. I'm happy with that.

I'm bouncing around my goal of starting 80% of what I buy. I think I might manage to achieve it over the whole year. As the total gets bigger, the handful of books I'm reluctant/unable to start become a smaller percentage.

As he moves all his stuff from his former home to their home, he is looking at selling/donating most of his books as they don't fit so well in a little house.
She would convert to her phone if she absolutely had to. But no one in her family has arthritis and there is nothing to indicate she'll be the first. That's me, I've been dealing with it since I was 16. Even then, for my physical books, I make do nicely with book pillows and a good light.

Also, we donated a few hundred before we started packing.

So true it's not even funny. Back in 2011, got my first e-ink reader (Nook) and decided it was time to clear the shelves. I sold off all my assorted fiction hardcovers that were available as ePub on eBay and replaced them with the ebook versions.

Fast forward a decade, the bookshelves are again CRAMMED!

Now they are full of books that are *NOT* available as ebook.

I'm hopeless!

I'm building the bookshelves for most of the collection. I we have about 5 boxes set aside for immediate unpacking that are going other places in the house besides the shelves i'm building.

I had some of those converted to ebook. It's the cookbooks, instruction books and the books with maps that have to be kept.

My driver for eliminating paper is both my ability to read them in the first place and knowing I will be downsizing to a senior apartment within the next 10 years. Having lived in fairly roomy 1 bedroom apartments in the past, I know that I need the wall space for quilts, embroidery and family memorabilia (photographs, handmade glass, etc.). Just won't be room for books.

Bookshelf building was fun. My late Dad built all of the bookshelves in this house and there are a lot of them. Only 2 are for DVDs/audiobooks.

I have a 15 foot high wall to play with in the great room. I am going to do a pipe and plank wall of shelving anchored into the studs.

I once had a cheap bookshelf collapse from the sheer weight of too many paperback novels. I ended up stacking them on the dining table until I could get a replacement.

I didn't realize how heavy paperbacks were until I had to schlep over 50 boxes of them (my late sister's collection). My Mom really likes the ereader, so we've eliminated all the novels except for the 3-4 left that need to get converted to ebook (orphaned titles, so not likely to appear commercially). Cookbooks and craft books still take up too many shelves.

It is August 15, and I've managed not to buy any books or audiobooks so far this month....can I make it to the end...?
