Unable to chroot into Debian 8 "FATAL: kernel too old"

I have been following this guide from your wiki. I chose the newest version possible because wheezy doesn't seem to be on the server anymore. I assume some updates to bash since 2015 are causing this. This is a Kindle Touch running the latest firmware it can (5.3.7.3) which uses linux kernel 2.6.31. I don't know why this is happening because I am following the guide exactly with the version it said to use (jessie). Could anyone help me with this?

Entering a Debian 8 chroot won't work because the glibc version of your Kindle is older than the minimum glibc version supported by the version of bash provided by Debian 8. If you need a chroot environment, you should use Alpine Linux instead.

Ah, but the wiki article for running debian on the touch literally stated to use 8 and bellow. I'm so confused.

You must have an older touch model than the unspecified touch model the wiki is targeting. Debian jessie uses kernel 3.16

Well, that puts the jessie recommendation in the wiki in doubt. That got added in May 2017.
