What I don't get is the popularity with Bookerly. It's a bland slab serif.

I may be misunderstanding the use of the hack... Does it allow me to use custom fonts on .mobi files? And if so where do I put the fonts? I've put them in the default kindle font folder and in the /linkfonts/fonts folder but there are no custom fonts available in the Aa menu.

Kindle - 5.13.3 PW4

This hack is for old firmwares (read the title).
For your device, you don’t need a hack. Just put the fonts to fonts/ directory

Turns out custom fonts are only supported on azw3, not mobi... So I had to convert my book and it's working now.

@T0biasCZe Ever since Kindle released firmware 5.9.6 in 2018, owners of Kindle e-readers have been able to add custom fonts to their devices, including Voyage. This built-in support is much easier. You can switch font during reading; no restart is required.

If your source is MOBI file, then consider converting to EPUB, AZW3, KF8, or KFX.

Sadly my PW1 is on 5.6.1.1 and that's the last release for that model which is about to be abandoned on 05/20. I added CharInk7SPSL's 4 .ttf fonts to the libfonts/fonts and redid the font cache and it shows nowhere when I try to do an override. The regular callibra regular or however it's spelled shows as the default. For python was I supposed to install python, python3 or both? If the font shows up do I just replace serif?
