The Powder Mage Trilogy
(Promise of Blood, The Crimson Campaign, The Autumn Republic)
by Brian McClellan

is $6.99 at Kobo U.S.

https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the...r-mage-trilogy

Below is the blurb:
In a world where mages control gunpowder and bullets, a brilliant general must defend his country from both war and insurrection. Check out the complete Powder Mage Trilogy in this omnibus edition, a series that Brandon Sanderson called "Just plain awesome!"

In Promise of Blood: Field Marshal Tamas' coup against his king sent corrupt aristocrats to the guillotine and brought bread to the starving. But it also provoked war with the Nine Nations, internal attacks by royalist fanatics. Stretched to his limit, Tamas is relying heavily on his few remaining powder mages, including the embittered Taniel, a brilliant marksman who also happens to be his estranged son, and Adamat, a retired police inspector whose loyalty is being tested by blackmail.

In The Crimson Campaign: Drastically outnumbered and pursued by the enemy's best, Tamas must lead his men on a reckless march through northern Kez to safety, and back over the mountains so that he can defend his country from an angry god, Kresimir.

In The Autumn Republic: Field Marshal Tamas returns to his beloved country to find that for the first time in history, the capital city of Adro lies in the hands of a foreign invader. His son is missing, his allies are indistinguishable from his foes, and reinforcements are several weeks away.

Amazon UK has a Daily Deal on SF today. It doesn't seem that great, but does include The Green Man's Heir (Green Man #1) by Juliet E McKenna and The Calculating Stars (Lady Astronaut #1) by Mary Robinette Kowal, both of which I really liked, and both of which are repeats, I think, but it does also include the third Lady Astronaut book, The Relentless Moon by Mary Robinette Kowal, which is the first time that's been on offer.

Is that #3 in a trilogy? Seems to be a USA only offer.

I've enjoyed a few Michael Moorcock.

Yes, it's the third in a trilogy, and part of a much larger multiverse, Moorcock's Eternal Champion stories. Moorcock's work rarely goes on sale.

Ah, on Moorcock, maybe somebody can help me.
Years ago I purchased 6 books from Kobo, which I have just discovered are no longer available (to buy, I can still download them, if I need to).
The books, in the series "Chronicles of the Last Emperor of Melnibone were:
  1. Elric The Stealer of Souls
  2. Elric: To Rescue Tanelorn
  3. Elric: The Sleeping Sorceress
  4. Duke Elric
  5. Elric In the Dream Realms
  6. Elric Swords and Roses
which seem to comprise a lot of stories, but I am not able to connect them completely to the rest of Moorcock lore.
For example the first one contains:
THE STEALER OF SOULS
  • The Dreaming City
  • While the Gods Laugh
  • The Stealer of Souls
  • Kings in Darkness (with James Cawthorn)
  • The Caravan of Forgotten Dreams (originally titled The Flame Bringers)
MISSION TO ASNO!
STORMBRINGER

Does anybody know how these books are connected to the rest ?
Thanks !

I have all of these, too, and they offer a great selection of stories dealing with Elric. They're available in different incarnations, and have been so over many years.

For example, I have the original Lancer editions of Stormbringer and The Stealer of Souls. Some of the Elric books were later issued by DAW.

Just read then in order and you should have loads of fun. I haven't read them in years, but I remember how much fun those two Lancer titles were when I was hungering for something similar to Edgar Rice Burroughs, Otis Adelbert Kline, Robert E. Howard, Lin Carter, and L. Sprague de Camp.

That's about all I can tell you.

Elric is a weird one, because the stories were written out of chronological order, and as Dr. Drib said there have been a myriad of different collections all with varying material. I think the wiki order is pretty good:

Quote:
(I) Elric of Melniboné (1972)
Book 1
Book 2
Book 3
The Fortress of the Pearl (1989)
(II) The Sailor on the Seas of Fate (1976)
Book One: "Sailing To the Future"
Book Two: "Sailing To the Present" (Revised as "The Lands Beyond the World")
Book Three: "Sailing To the Past" (Revision of "The Jade Man's Eyes")
Elric at the End of Time (1981)
(III) The Weird of the White Wolf
Prologue: "The Dream of Earl Aubec" (original title: "Master of Chaos") (May 1964)
Book One: "The Dreaming City" (June 1961)
Book Two: "While the Gods Laugh" (October 1961)
Book Three: "The Singing Citadel" (May 1967)
(IV) The Vanishing Tower (original title: The Sleeping Sorceress) (1971)
Book One: "The Torment of the Last Lord"
Book Two: "To Snare the Pale Prince"
Book Three: "Three Heroes With a Single Aim"
The Revenge of the Rose (1991)
(V) The Bane of the Black Sword
Book One: "The Stealer of Souls" (February 1962)
Book Two: "Kings in Darkness" (August 1962)
Book Three: "The Flame Bringers" (alternative title: "The Caravan of Forgotten Dreams") (October 1962)
Epilogue: "To Rescue Tanelorn" (December 1962)
(VI) Stormbringer
Book One: "Dead God's Homecoming" (June 1963)
Book Two: "Black Sword's Brothers" (October 1963)
Book Three: "Sad Giant's Shield" (February 1964)
Book Four: "Doomed Lord's Passing" (April 1964)
The Fortress of the Pearl, Revenge of the Rose and Elric at the End of Time can be largely ignored during an initial read, IMO. They were written well after the other books and tie in more to Moorcock's Eternal Champion cycle than they do with the storyline in the main books. I bolded the main books as they were originally collected (after their magazine publications).

The Elric ebooks that are no longer available were from Del Ray. They are being republished by Saga Press in 3 volumes.
The first book will be out at the end of the year, and the rest in 2022.

Thanks for the answer. The reason I was writing is because there is a sale ongoing on Kobo (at least for Euro countries) and I was wondering if it was a good idea to purchase the books on offer, or if I already had them all.
For example these books, which are in a series called Elric: The Moonbeam Roads:

Daughter of Dreams (#1)
https://www.kobo.com/it/it/ebook/daughter-of-dreams

Destiny's Brother (#2)
https://www.kobo.com/it/it/ebook/destiny-s-brother

Son of the wolf (#3)
https://www.kobo.com/it/it/ebook/son-of-the-wolf

Elric: Stormbringer! (no number)
https://www.kobo.com/it/it/ebook/elric-stormbringer

Elric of Melniboné and Other Stories
https://www.kobo.com/it/it/ebook/elr...-other-stories

plus others, such as

Count Brass
https://www.kobo.com/it/it/ebook/count-brass
(I know this is not Eric, I put it here to point out the offer)

It is a bit of a mess for me to understand whether it is reasonable to buy them or not. I bought the paper stories long time ago (half DAW and half some British publisher I cannot recall right now)
Understanding the content is quite difficult for me, there might be overlaps already in the above list (can't understand for example whether Elric of Melniboné and Other Stories overlaps with the others).

Just as another example, the other books in the collection I bought have something of a mix, as far as I understand.

Book 2

THE ETERNAL CHAMPION 1962
TO RESCUE TANELORN… 1962
THE LAST ENCHANTMENT 1962
THE GREATER CONQUEROR
MASTER OF CHAOS (Earl Aubec) 1964
PHASE 1: A Jerry Cornelius Story 1965
THE SINGING CITADEL 1967
THE JADE MAN’S EYES 1973
THE STONE THING 1974
ELRIC AT THE END OF TIME 1981
THE BLACK BLADE’S SONG (The White Wolf’s Song) 1994
CRIMSON EYES 1994
SIR MILK-AND-BLOOD 1996
THE ROAMING FOREST 2006

Book 3 has
THE SLEEPING SORCERESS
ELRIC OF MELNIBONÉ

Book 4
THE SAILOR ON THE SEAS OF FATE
DUKE ELRIC

Book 5
THE FORTRESS OF THE PEARL
A PORTRAIT IN IVORY
EARL AUBEC OF MALADOR

Book 6
The revenge of the rose
BLACK PETALS

Comparing these with your list there does not seem to be holes, just a mix up.
Any suggestions ? Is it worth buying them ?
