Anyone else having trouble syncing with Kindle for PC?

I've currently got Kindle for PC locked at version 1.19.2 for DeDRM purposes. It's running under WINE at the moment, since I'm on Linux. It was working fine for the last two years, but when I bought a book earlier this week and tried to fire it up to pull the book down, I get this error every time I try to sync:

"Unable to connect. Please check your connect settings and proxy configuration. Network settings can be found under Tools > Options > Network" I thought it might be Amazon blacklisting my VPN IP, but I get the same error even when I drop it. Amazon's site itself loads okay. I don't have any kind of proxy setup through the app. It's entirely possible that it's something wonky on my end. Just checking if anyone else is having trouble. I know that Amazon is trying *very hard* to get people off these old versions so that they can no longer crack the DRM, and I had to put several mitigations in place to prevent the app from automatically updating against my wishes. It wouldn't surprise me if they were to send back a phony "Unable to connect" message as another tactic to compel people to upgrade "as a troubleshooting step" when they try contacting Amazon for support. |

I don’t have that setup so I won’t speculate. But I just download .azw3 from Manage Your Content and Devices and (by telling the plugin about one of my Kindle serial numbers) feed it to the plugin. Why not get an old Kindle on eBay or something and use that method? Is the result any different? And it would not require WINE etc.

I mostly use downloading for my eink Kindles as well. But 1.17 still worked for me as of yesterday. This is on Windows 10.

Some illustrations might have higher resolution. But I've never been able to get k4pc to work, so I don't know.

Won’t newer versions work if you stop them from generating kfx? Or does that hack no longer work?

For anyone else curious, I did some googling and this appears to be a revoked cert of some kind. See:

https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50471 https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtop...186&uid=248652 I'll have to decide how/whether I want to fix that within my CrossOver bottle, or risk updating to a newer version. |
