Will the Kindle display and sort by series if the books are marked as series in Calibre?
10,000 eBooks to put into collections manually is going to be a real hassle. Also, 10,000 eBooks is going to be not easy to find what's on the Kindle.

I never came close to filling the 32GB card, it was more out of curiosity as to whether the 128GB card would work in the Clara HD. This is the internal card not a external card.

Collections actually make it harder to find books. You have to somehow know what collections the book is in. And you have to spend all of the time to organize. With 10000 books? And you have to navigate to the collection, and then navigate within the collection, all just to find the book. And the collections you make will be of no use to someone else.

If you recall in the early days of the Internet, Yahoo was all the rage because they organized the web into categories. There was no way to search. But which category is the page in? Good luck figuring it out. And it required teams of people to do the organizing, and it could not keep up with the proliferation of pages.

Finding things on the web with Search is what everyone does now, and nobody bothers to organize the web into categories. And that is also the most efficient way to find a book among 10000 of them.

Now, maybe it would be nice if I could search for ‘books with happy endings’ or ‘books with cats in them’ and have it return something on my Kindle. But I’m not going to create collections for these.

Even 1,200 ebooks is hardly manageable on a Kindle of any kind. The 32 G is no doubt for Asian/manga/comic etc, not 20,000 ebooks.

Book management, especially of USB loaded is poor. Also you need to load in batches of about 20 to 30 and leave connected to power while it indexes.

Wife won't go back to her Kindle PW3 now that she has a Kobo Libra.

That's only true if you don't have distinct genres or badly selected collections. You may want to browse Westerns or Detective or Romance or Classic SF, not a particular title, which all ereaders can do without the Kindle power hungry indexing of entire books. I've rarely needed global contents search as I'm looking for a genre, author or title. Or else searching the book I'm reading, which all ereaders can do. But I manage my library with Calibre, not Amazon's broken Cloud tools.

Oh, and I despised Yahoo because they were clueless. They and AOL tried to control users. Bad example.

I must be the exception to the other Kobo users here, because I still like and use my Oasis 3 (true, without collections). Also I find the global search pretty useful with a longer series when I don't remember in which book a character or a place etc. was first mentioned.

Plus the Oasis is a lot faster than my Kobo Libra.

Of course Kobos have their advantages and integration with Calibre is certainly one of them. I do like my Libra and switch between it and the Oasis mostly.

I still don’t see how it helps to have a Westerns collection. What if there are 300 books in there? Great, now you have narrowed your search to 300, which is not very helpful. If I know author or part of the title you can Search and get it much faster. If you are ‘just browsing’ for a Western, maybe, but then you have to put in the sweat to make that possible. And while you might have the knack and interest to be a librarian, not that many people do.

You are actually making my point about Yahoo: it didn’t work, and people were desperate for alternatives, thus we have Google etc.

10,000 eBooks on any Reader is going to make it difficult to remember what eBooks are on there. It's going to be a nightmare to scroll through and see what it is that's on there. Put on a manageable number of eBooks. 10,000 is not that number. It's just way too many. Plus you would need to keep a Kindle plugged in for days while it indexes and if one eBook has a problem indexing, you have to figure out which one, remove it let the indexing go again and if yet more eBooks don't index... It's not worth it.

Could not say it better. Only if you are going to Mars, or prison for life, or something like that.

Or you are Fay and living till killed, or a demi-god. Or read a fresh book every two days for about seventy years. Replacement batteries would be a problem.

Big solar panels.

And a brush. Except Solar panels may not last much more than fifteen years.

You'll also need a lot of oxygen, food, water and radiation shielding. One of Jupiter's moon's might have at least water and less radiation. Though you need MUCH bigger solar panels they might not need brushed.
