"isKRFDRendererSupported = false" has no effect for me with Kindle 1.31.0 and 1.26.0 under Wine 6.11.
It appears in these regedit paths for me: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Amazon\Kindle\User Settings HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wow6432Node\Amazon\Kind le\User Settings Last edited by Geremia; 07-02-2021 at 06:02 PM. |

Amazon has released Kindle for Mac version 1.32. This release removes the renderer-test program, so it will no longer be possible to prevent KFX downloads by blocking that program from running.
Perhaps a new method will be found for disabling KFX, but until then avoid the new version of Kindle for Mac if you want to be able to import books into calibre. |

One solution to Amazon modifying K4PC/K4MAC is totry to find a cheap Kindle that supports KF8 (AZW3). Then you can download the eBooks direct from Amazon in Mobi or KF8.

I'd like to disable Kindle for Mac updates as described by odamizu in post #1242, but I'm on an M1 iMac running Big Sur and I can't find a Kindle-related "updates" folder anywhere on my system. Can anyone advise?

In the meantime, are you using K4Mac downloaded from App Store or from Amazon's website? If from App Store, you're probably okay if you turn off auto-updates in System Prefs. I don't think Amazon can force an auto-update on apps downloaded from the App Store. |

Hey guys,
I registered just to say a big THANK YOU to all the amazing people around here. I blocked the generation of the update on Mac OS Big sur, use an old version of calibre that transforms the azw seamlessly, my collection is now stored safely and I enjoy amazon unlimited plentifully. I will never let the thing update lol. Thank you all! |

My Kindle for Mac unexpectedly (and without my permission) ungraded itself to 1.32. I deleted it. I installed 1.31. I pasted the appropriate commands in Terminal and ran them. I downloaded a book and was careful not to open it. I imported the book into Calibre. That worked, but when I tried to open the book in Calibre, I had a pop-up window saying that the book is DRM-protected. I'm running the latest Calibre version with all plugins current. I have an M1 MacBook Air running Big Sur.
I did the process again, with the same result. My downloaded books appear in azw format, so it seems that the Terminal command works, at least to that point. Am I missing something? Do I need to go back to an older version of Kindle or Calibre? Everything was working properly before the 1.32 update appeared. Thanks! |

- 2015 MacBook Pro running Catalina 10.15.5 - K4M 1.28.0 with the updates folder set to be read-only (program crashes appropriately on exit) - Disabled KFX support via terminal chmod command and received no error messages - Running calibre 5.25.0 - Installed tools 7.2.1 I followed instructions and only DOWNLOADED the book via K4M and DIDN'T OPEN it in the K4M app. Then added book to calibre and it added as an AWZ and shows the title and cover properly, so it appears KFX is indeed disabled. But when I try to open the file in calibre, I get the following error message: "This books is locked by DRM. To learn more about DRM and why you cannot read or convert this book in calibre, read here." Any help would be appreciated. |

I'm a little surprised a moderator hasn't come around to warn that detailed help is not permitted on MobileRead and you should go to Harper's GitHub or Alf's blog, where you can post logs.
That said, some hopefully-not-to-detailed comments: Quote:

If going back to Calibre 4.23 and Alf 6.8.1 doesn't work, and if a clean install of K4Mac doesn't work, please try Harper's GitHub or Alf's blog. |

Has anyone had any experience with "Great on Kindle" books?
There is a post on Alf's blog for this book: https://www.amazon.com/Four-Agreemen.../dp/B005BRS8Z6 It downloads to K4Mac as qa7sq_th.azw (an unusual filename!) and is identified as KF8, but doesn't work with Alf. I have no experience with "Great on Kindle" books. Wondering if "Great on Kindle" books are a problem for Alf, or if the problem lies elsewhere. (The same poster has another issue on Alf's blog that also poses an interesting puzzle, if anyone is intrigued by puzzles.) |
