Seriously retro and abysmal compared to some 7" and 7.8" ereaders for PDFs. That and comics are the main reasons to go more than 7" to 8".
The Ancient Kindle DX was 1200 x 825 The DXG has a later better contrast eink but otherwise the same.

The DXG (pearl screen upgrade of DX) was 2010, 11 years ago.

I can't see the point of this. Though no doubt it's got a much better CPU and more sensible amount of RAM.

The 2015 PW3 (6") is 1448 x 1072

The current Kobo Libra is 7.0" 300 PPI E Ink Carta display, 1680 × 1264 resolution (About €220 in VAT in Ireland in August 2021).

So is it for users of a 6" eReader that don't admit to needing glasses?

The description doesn't say anything about the Inkpad X either. It's clear in context that this is a relatively "cheap" eReader for those who want bigger fonts or more words per page — in other words, for those currently using smaller screens.

Only bigger text, unless it's compared with a basic 6" @ 800 x 600. Most decent 6" and all 7" to 8" do more words per page than this.
Some eReaders I have in bought order:
  1. Kindle Paperwhite 3: 6" @ 1448 x 1072, 300 dpi
  2. Kindle DXG 9.7" @ 1200 x 825, 150 dpi (apparently same screen without touch). My worst ereader purchase ever. Least number of words per page on this list.
  3. Original Aura HD H2O 6.8" @ 1430 x 1080, 265 dpi, SD card up to 32 G. IR Touch.
  4. Kobo Libra 7.0" @ 1680 × 1264 @ 300 dpi
  5. Boyue Likebook Mars (Android 8.1) 7.8" 1872 x 1404, 300 dpi, SD card maybe 256G (128 G Byte exFat works), audio jack, BT keyboard, BT audio, Playstore. Native PDF reader good, ebooks need KOReader install (trivial over WiFi).
ALL do more text on the screen than the 9.7" DXG or Pocketbook InkPad Lite 9.7". Also the InkPad Lite 9.7" might be lighter than the DXG, but will be heavier than all the others.

I guess if it's the same price as an entry level 6" Kindle (without adverts) it might be good value. It seems inferior to the Libra, Mars and Forma (7", 7.8" & 8").

For me, the $289 US ($360 Cdn) price tag makes it a non-starter. Unless someone is looking for a DX/DXG replacement, I can't see many uses for the Inkpad Lite.

Me either. It seems to be a throwback for a new eReader. The worrisome part of it for me is if they incorporate this button design change in their other reader lines.

My Boyue Likebook Mars is my Kindle DXG replacement. About €50 to €70 cheaper than a Forma here in Ireland bought from Germany. About 1/2 way in price between the Libra 7" and Forma 8" and though 7.8" the 300 dpi means it's better resolution than most 10.3" eink, though they are most really electronic paper for notes and sketches using a Wacom or similar stylus.

The 10.3" and 7.8" devices have exactly the same resolution. 1872x1404. The PPI is lower on the 10.3" models obviously as it's just 227. It's still easier to read PDFs on the 10.3" models because text ends up bigger. Reading books in landscape with two columns is pretty nice on 10.3" screens.

What does this device bring to the table? The specs are from the previous decade and there doesn't seem to be any great feature.

It's got higher contrast and faster response than a Kindle DXG?

And touch, a faster CPU and SD card slot. But still a rubbish display in terms of resolution.

Certainly faster and certainly better contrast than a DX. But hardly likely much better contrast than the DXG unless the light is on.
