Born in Death is the 23rd in JD Robb's In Death series, or at least that's what the Amazon blurb says. And I'm going with it, because I don't feel like counting at SYKM

The collection Authentic French Noir: Bird in a Cage, Crush, The Executioner Weeps, and The Gravedigger's Bread by Frédéric Dard is currently $2.99 at B&N.
https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/aut...ard/1139585627 The individual titles are priced at $9.99 apiece at Amazon and Kobo, so this is a substantial savings. Frédéric Dard (1921-2000) was one of the best known and loved French crime writers of the twentieth century. Enormously prolific, he wrote more than three hundred thrillers, suspense stories, plays and screenplays, throughout his long and illustrious career. He won the Grand prix de littérature policière in 1957 for The Executioner Weeps. |

A collection of French Noir titles by Frédéric Dard, translated/e-published by Pushkin Vertigo, is on sale for $2.99 in the US. The titles in the collection are: Bird in a Cage, Crush, The Executioner Weeps, and The Gravedigger's Bread. I haven't read any of these - they look a little more noir-ish than I generally like, even though I'm usually a sucker for books set in France. But I've liked several other titles that have been translated/e-published by Pushkin Vertigo, so I would expect these to be pretty good.

Many years ago I read and really liked The Flanders Panel, by Arturo Perez-Reverte – so long ago that I read it as a DTB. It’s one of those books with multiple storylines going on, where you’re not quite sure what’s really happening, and those sometimes annoy me a bit. But Perez-Reverte, who has won an International Dagger award, does it so well in The Flanders Panel that I just started reading, and couldn’t stop until the end. (Thereby annoying my family a bit, if memory serves…) One caveat – I played chess quite a bit as a child/teen, and I think that did help me out with some parts of the story.
And Flanders has dropped to $1.99 at Kindle US right now, which also definitely helps! Kindle US: https://www.amazon.com/Flanders-Pane...dp/B003SNKBUK/ Kindle US/Smile: https://smile.amazon.com/Flanders-Pa...dp/B003SNKBUK/ Spoiler:

Another freebie from Michael Kenyon's Inspector Peckover series. This time it's Cradling Death, which is a re-titling (grrr) of Peckover Holds the Baby, which was first published in the 1980s. It's nice that it's free, so it makes it a little less important that Lume Books have completely changed the title, because it's not a big deal if you "buy" it again. But still, it's quite frustrating in general when titles get changed beyond recognition...

The Book of the Dead is the third in the Augustus Maltravers series by Robert Richardson. I remember reading and enjoying a couple of books in this series back in DTB days, so it's nice to see an e-book version of this title available for free right now at Kindle US and UK.
