I did something stupid it seems. I had the jailbreak on a 5.12.5 Paperwhite and everything was fine. I originally used the tmp<something> folder to stop the Kindle from updating, but somehow I deleted that and when I had the Wifi turned on to update the koreader it seems that the Kindle updated as well.
So now I have a Kindle PW 5.13.6 on which a Jailbreak was installed before the update. KUAL no longer starts and my question is: Is there any way back to 5.12.5, or am I stuck with a 5.13.6 and no koreader/KUAL any more?

You need to revisit the "Making sure your JB survives updates." section in the first post in this thread.

Run both JB Hotfix bin and Kual booklet hotfix bin and see if that fixes it, worked for me per the post right before yours.

I was on the 5.13.2 before. Btw, I only tried out the JB hotfix bin. I didn't know if I had to also try out Kual booklet hotfix. I will search that and try it out.

Thanks for the pointer, and the update worked i.e., gave no error. But I still can't start Kual. Do I have to re-install everything after that step?

And is there a way to go back to the older firmware from 5.13.6? On my other Kindle I still have 5.12.5 and that would be the firmware I'd like to put on this one as well.

Everything always has to be reinstalled after a firmware update.

And is there a way to go back to the older firmware from 5.13.6? On my other Kindle I still have 5.12.5 and that would be the firmware I'd like to put on this one as well.

That depends on the precise kindle model.

I recently made a factory reset on my kindle. (I had some problems with the Screensavers hack to get running)
The Jailbreak was still there and I already installed KUAL and KOReader successfully.
Is there a way to dissable the "Home Screen"?
Before the Factory Reset, I could dissable the "Home Screen" in my personal settings. Since I'm not logged in, I don't have the personal settings...
My device is an Oasis 3 with 5.12.2. if that matters.

Thanks a lot for the information. I have now been able to get KUAL, mrinstaller and koreader running again, added renameotabin and used it to rename the executables that might otherwise update the Kindle. I hope that this is enough to stop the Kindle from updating again.

Hi again!
I noticed, that my Kindle is draining it's battery much faster after the JailBreak / Open Sesame!.
I've always enable Airplane mode and after 3 days of standby without using the kindle, it has lost 6% battery.
After reading about 15 pages (built in kindle reader) the battery showed 89% (before 94%).
Before the Jailbreak I didn't notice such a "fast" battery drain.
Is this normal behaviour?

Unrelated, the JB is completely inert on its own.
