Small enhancement request:
Would it be much difficulty to add a "move to other list" button to the Edit List dialog? Thanks ![]() |

Also, is anybody else able to replicate books getting stuck sorting to at the bottom of the book list after adding/removing it from a list? Even changing views with View Manager didn't help; the only thing to do is to restart Calibre.

Yeah I think I ran into something like that, IIRC I did a library swap - I don't use RL much now, might have even removed it -- less is better, least is best.

I don't use Reading List to keep tracks of lists. I just use it to mark the eBooks I want to put on my H2O so when I connect my H2O to my Calibre library, the eBooks get added automatically. That works very well and I don't have to remember which eBooks I want to add and/or update. The one other thing I use RL for is to mark the eBooks I have on my H2O.

I have my reading lists set to modify a series column and to add/remove a value from tag-like #kobocoll column.
1. With view manager, switch to a view. If it matters, most of my views have the reading list series column sorted near the top. 2. Add or remove a book from a reading list. 3. Select that book. 4. Press F5 to refresh. If the bug occurs, the book drops to the bottom of the list regardless of where it ought to be in the list. Changing views doesn't fix this. I notice it happens a bit more when a device is plugged in. Last edited by ownedbycats; 07-24-2021 at 03:44 PM. |

At no point here do you say that you're invoking Reading List's 'View list' function? That's when VM changes the 'marked' values to match the list. I'm not familiar with an 'F5' to refresh in Calibre. Did you assign that to something? Searching Calibre's key config for 'Refresh' only finds QuickView refresh. |

Any time you use the View Manager it will mess up the sort for the reading list plugin. Edit: If you must use the View Manager Plugin, use before you show the list, not after. Last edited by capink; 07-24-2021 at 04:04 PM. |

No, I don't use View List at all. I
F5 for refresh was added a couple of versions ago. It's called "Re-apply current sort." Attached are three screenshots of the views I see it happening most commonly under. Reading Lists is my series-like, and "on reading list" is a composite that returns 'true' when that column is populated - otherwise I'd have to use descending order to keep it at the top of the list. Currently reading's another composite. Last read, last updated, date are all dates. Percent read is integer. On Kobo is a boolean. On Device is built in - it only works when a device is actually plugged in. |

If you are not using the "view list" then the reading list plugin cannot affect the sorting. Not directly at least. It can only affect the sorting — indirectly — by updating columns that are in your sort order. And the books going to the bottom are probably just following the sort order defined by your view.
If you apply a new view that does not include the following columns: ( On reading list, reading lists ) the books will probably stop going to the bottom. |

Unfortunately, if I switch to the "Series" view (which only sorts by series) and switch to all books, the affected books are still at the bottom of the list.

If you switch to a view that only sorts by one column (series column), what happens is that it pushes that column to the top of the sort order, while the first few columns of the previous view (depending on the value of maximum_resort_levels tweak) are still active when the books have the same value for the first column (series column).
Without seeing the data it is harder to know what is happening. But you can see for your self the current sort order, and examine whether the books follow that same order by using the following action in Action Chains (start in debug mode and it will print sort order to the console): Code:
from calibre.utils.config import tweaks from calibre_plugins.action_chains.actions.base import ChainAction class SortingInfo(ChainAction): name = 'Sorting Info' def run(self, gui, settings, chain): db = gui.current_db sort_history = gui.library_view.get_state().get('sort_history', []) max_sort_levels = tweaks['maximum_resort_levels'] print('DEBUG: sort_order: {}'.format(sort_history[:max_sort_levels])) |
