I looked up starting in debug mode in internet, saw that it accessible from the preferences, but don't know where.
The book is not in the public domain.
I think I had outlook open and was reading fanfiction on internet while calibre was running.
My Surface Book 2 15":

  • 16 Gb ram 1866 Mhz LPDDR3
  • processor 8th gen Intel core i7-8650U quad core processor
  • 4.2 Ghz max turbo
I've always found it slow.

Right-click the preferences button and it is on the menu. It restarts calibre and shows a message about the log. When you close calibre it should show the log.

Can you post a link to wherever it is? If there is a preview, that can give me an idea of what is happening.

An alternative is to use the ScrambleEbook plugin to create a version you can post.

That should have plenty of resources available. Hopefully the debug log will tell me how many it is handling. Though it could be an issue with resource from the previous steps not being cleaned up fully.

Unfortunately the dictionary is only available as a dead-tree book.
I tried with a smaller book which is available on mobileread (brucewelch): Clemens Brentano and Ludwig Achig von Arnim's "Des Knabes Wunderhorn", 764 html files, 0.97 Mb epub. I had to convert it to kepub in Calibre before sending it previously, but with your beta it sent the epub to Libra in 10 seconds, and it landed as a kepub.
I tried again to send the dictionary to Elipsa, got the following error message after 3 1/2 minutes:
Spoiler:

That is probably due to the other errors. It is basically just a coverall for an error communicating with the device.

I won't be available for some 3 hours.
That starts with a couple of errors loading plugins. The first is for the Kepub Output plugin. There is a code error in a line. But, that line doesn't match anything in the current code. In fact, it looks like a fairly old version. You should either reinstall the plugin through the plugin installer, or install the beta version I attached above.

For the rest, the log stops before it gets to sending a book to the device. In fact, it hasn't even finished getting the list of books from the device. It would probably be better to attach the log file rather than pasting it into the text of the post.

There's a new version posted which fixes errors when sending massive books. I didn't consider massive books when spinning up threads for each content file, this version uses a process pool to limit how many children there can be.

This version also removes Python 2 compatibility, so you'll need calibre 5.0.0 or above.

Thank you. I hadn't realized that Calibre didn't automatically prompt on new versions. I tested it and it works. I'll be very pleased to be able to work with the portable version of Calibre, and uninstall Calibre 64bits.

EDIT: I just realized, prior to deleting the test version of the book I had problems with, that I should keep it since it is "lighter": 22.6 instead of 24.3 Mb.

Calibre usually does prompt for new versions of plugins. For some reason it isn't showing that this or the Kepub Output plugin have been updated.

Why are you keeping a 32-bit version instead of the more robust 64-bit version? You originally got into this problem because of running a 2-bit version. Dump the 32-bit version for the 64-bit version and you'll have less issues. The 32-bit version has access to only 3GB of memory and the 64-bitversion does not have this limitation.

What you are saying (from what I read) is... Now that the problem is fixed, I can go back to a version of Calibre that will at some point cause me to have problems instead of staying with the version that won't have those problems.

I just realized that my test version didn't have the new improved TOC which already increased the size of the epub: 20.17 Mb instead of 16.88 Mb.
So I proceeded to load the improved epub, delete the kepub from Elipsa, and send the epub to Elipsa, where it landed as a kepub, 25.9 Mb, which reads well.

But then Calibre gave an error message
Spoiler:

That is an error writing the metadata.calibre file to the device. If this is with the 32bit version of calibre, it means the amount of data in the metadata for all the books is very big. This is the metadata for all the books on the device.

If you are using a 32-bit version of Calibre, it doesn't have enough memory to to write to metadata.calibre on your Elipsa. Switching to the 64-bit version should solve the memory error. If this is the case, it means you'll have to give up the 32-bit version.

I want to keep the portable version, which is easiest to save and synchronize without losing any parameter. I did last year turn it into a 64 bits version, but the process would have to be repeated every time Calibre's version changes, and I prefer to always have the latest version of everything, except for major changes to F/W when I might wait until people report no problems.
KoboTouchExtended's newest version means conversion to kepubs during transfer to Kobos works for all my books. Updating the metadata works most of the time, including this morning after my latest message.
Also I decided to add Libra and Elipsa's databases to my weekly saving process as well as whenever I make major changes of course.

Edit: DNSB kindly gave me a step by step process at the time, and looking at the thread, I notice JSWolf and I already had this discussion:https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=335121. One person's "easy" is another's "hassle" or "painful" or "too difficult".

One of my brothers was always after me about syncing, and I tried, and made majors errors. I'm major errors prone...

Later he also introduced me to portable versions, and that was it for me. Whenever a portable version exists, I use it.

Yes, I've been using the portable version as well, and that's my only complaint is that the official version of the portable program is 32 bit only. Someone else had a portable version that was 64bit, but I had problems with it so went back to the official portable version.

Hi,

I'm experiencing Calibre crashes when sending books to my device. I made a post in the Calibre device section of this forum.

Kovid thought it might have to do with this plugin and indeed, when I use the kobotouch plugin all is well.

Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

See the first message in this thread if calibre has not noticed you that a new version of the Kobo Touch Extended driver is available. See message #2556 for the release announcement.
