SSH on Onyx Boox Max
I have a Max 2 and I used to use JuiceSSH on it a lot. However, since the last update to the android version, it can't hold a connection for a few seconds. I thought that subsequent updates might fix it but so far they haven't. I also find that MOSH doesn't work anymore because UDP seems to be largely blocked. If MOSH worked that would help with the flaky SSH connection somewhat.
Does anyone else have this problem? Or is anyone else using a different SSH client which works better (though, AFAICT the device is the problem rather than the application). Every so often I consider upgrading to a newer model but I need SSH to work if I do so it would be pointless if I can't guarantee a working SSH client. Has anyone had any success with SSH of any of the later large screen devices? TIA |

Have you tried using termux instead? It seems to work fine for at least a few minutes on my Note Air. I would also double check your power settings to see if it's killing wifi when there's no activity.

ADB shell won't suit your needs?
What about ADB TCP forwarding (or reverse)? |

Thanks, guys. I don't think I can use ADB because I can't connect directly to the device. It has to be over the network and SSH is the only externally accessible service.
I've used termux in the past, but I didn't have it installed so I decided to give it a go. The device was extremely slow to the extent that I decided to do a full reset. After the reset, I couldn't install any of the SSH apps I had installed, including termux, because they were marked as incompatible. So I tried Termius. At least in Termius I can get mosh to work now. However, it does explicitly show that my Max is falling off the wifi network for a few seconds every minute or so. I've turned off all the power saving/sleeping options and made sure that my apps are unfrozen. But because it was running so slowly, that used up an entire charge so now I'm charging it up for another go. Thanks again for the help. |
