Elipsa: Not accepting converted Kepubs

There are no issues here or reported elsewhere with calibre most recent calibre versions. 5.22.0 was an issue on Linux but, 5.22.1 has been released to replace it. There were some issues with early 5.x versions but they have been fixed.

As to Kobo firmware, again there are no issues up to 4.26.16704. And as I stated above, 4.28.17826 imports kepubs on my Glo HD. And @Cootey has stated he has imported kepubs on his Elipsa.

This suggests it is a problem with your books, or something with your device. Have you edited the config file and added the entry for not searching particular directories?

About the only thing I can think of at this point is if I could get a look at one of the kepubs the driver is producing so that I can test it myself. And I have attached a test kepub that has been sideloaded to the Glo HD with firmware 4.28.17826 and opened with no issue. This was produced by a conversion rather than the driver, but, for this, there should be no issues.

I've been focusing on a) inabilities to purchase books with the Elipsa, b) annotation syncing failure in general, and c) creating and exporting notebooks.

I have been able to download content to the Elipsa using Calibre's content server, but I haven't experimented with side-loading over USB yet.

Yeah, I've been wicked active lately. But it's all vitally important stuff! 😏

I wonder if I've run into an issue similar to what you are. At first, it seems a completely different issue. I'm having problems purchasing ebooks with the Elipsa. The purchases get corrupted. Kobo marks them in my purchase history, but the books don't sync to any of my devices. I had to get a tech to delete one of them, then restore it to my account to get it to download. As I said, a completely different problem.

However, this morning, that book disappeared again, and I had to re-restore it through the bookstore. Now, I can only find it if I search for it. It's not showing up in All Books with Recent sorting.

I wonder if your ebooks show up in search.

Hmm... very interesting. I did not try a search on the Elipsa (or Forma) but I'll sideload again and try it. My converted kepubs were from various sources, from Kobo (via ADE), ordinary epubs purchased from another vendor, and my azw3s from AMZ . I have also tried kepubify with no success. Worse, I am having the same problem on my Forma. Admittedly, I haven't converted to kepubs in a while but I never had this problem when using v4.23 and prior versions of Calibre. This is the only common denominator I can come up with. All other formats continue to sideload AND import flawlessly. Books currently in my account appear to have synced normally but I have not purchased any in the past couple of weeks to know if a new problem exists.

Regarding Kobo, some years ago about 10 books disappeared from my account with no explanation. Licensing problem? Technical problem? They had no clue or record, I was basically SOL. Of course, thanks to my pal Alf, they were safe and sound. I posted my dilemma here on MR and was smacked down and essentially labeled a liar because "I had no evidence." And "how did I know they were purchased?" Purchased/synced book files on the device are coded and quite obvious, not to mention I know what exactly what I've bought. Back to the point.... my confidence in Kobo's customer account maintenance has waned somewhat. [/Rant Off]

No changes to any config files, this is a new, out-of-the-box Elipsa. I typically download books directly from Kobo (via ADE) as it is rare that any are formatted to my liking. I'll test your file later today and report back. Thank you.

Your file imported normally. After looking closer into the sideloaded folders, the problem was obvious -- the converted filenames were truncated: bookxxx.kepub instead of bookxxx.kepub.epub. I uninstalled/reinstalled the plugin, verified settings and that solved the problem. Something must have become corrupted.

That is strange, but, it does explain some things. I can't think of why that would happen or why sending to the device didn't update the extensions. If you have a kepub in the calibre library, it will just have the extension ".kepub". The send-to-device should add the ".epub" and the extended driver should do the full ".kepub.epub" after doing the kepub transformation.

But, I'm a little annoyed with myself. I thought about asking for a debug log from calibre, but, I didn't as it seemed to be the device, not calibre. If I had the log, I might have seen what caused this.

The conversion was normal with the appropriate file extension in the Calibre library. The only problem was the file truncation on the device post-transfer. And I should have thought about sending a debug log but didn't.
