![]() Anytime a book inspires 500+ different serious appreciation pages and video games, MUDs, annual calendar's, art books and even an MMO, there's something going on ![]() I think one true test of a book's/author's work is that he/she inspires such depth of feeling in readers and Jordan and to a slightly lesser degree Goodkind, have that in spades. I suspect that Dumas and Sabatini and Wodehouse and Trollope and Verne all had much the same reactions to their books in their day. Depth of feeling. Haters and lovers and not so much indifference. I agree that Outlander series is good. Ignore JSWolf on that issue! Maybe it's a girl thing - but the original poster is a girl. You said you wanted romance, well they've got it. If you like the mid 1700's and lots of life details, that helps too.
"Dead Until Dark" is the first of the Sookie Stackhouse series. Romance, definitely comedy, vampires. Light hearted. |

Not so far. The second trilogy is easy, the first trilogy is waiting for Tor to get their act together.

If you like Urban Fantasy, you might try Patricia Brigg's Mercedes Thompson series (first book "Moon Called") or her Alpha & Omega series (first story an separate ebook Novella "Alpha & Omega" or same story in the "On the Prowl" anthology).
Mercedes Thompson series is urban fantasy with a slow-building romance (takes more than one book and there's more than one man vying for her attention). Alpha & Omega is new (only 1 novella and 1 novel), but definitely has a romance. And I most definitely "second" the suggestion for Linnea Sinclair's romantic space operas! Edited to add: Oh, and I really enjoyed the Michelle Sagara "Cast" series, but if you're specifically looking for a romance, I wouldn't go looking for it in that series. There's a hint of a hint...but it's all unrequited and not really appearing to lead to anything...yet. If you want to read an interesting fantasy series with possibilities, go for it. Just don't look for a romance. Another recommendation would be C.E. Murphy's "Negotiator" trilogy. Definitely a strong heroine, although I'll admit sometimes I think she was stupid about putting herself in danger. Last edited by FizzyWater; 03-31-2009 at 10:32 PM. |

The Mercy books are good, I'm liking the series so far.
