Looking at the list, the books seem similar to the usual StoryBundle selections - all appear to be indie authors. I think I've only come across one of the authors before, and may have encountered another.

Either way, I'm not interested in any of the authors nor the offerings. BookFunnel also looks like a management system for authors, and yet another site to track. The FAQ says you can download to any device, or download from the website (admittedly, an improvement on other walled gardens which don't permit downloads), but it looks like at some point it could easily turn into a non-download site.

Thank you! I've always been curious about that one. Any book that Iron Maiden makes a song about...

Yeah, I think this was the one where I was inundated with offers from each individual Indy author who participated. I had to end up cancelling each single one in order to get some respite from their constant emails selling this or selling that. I'm surprised one of them didn't have their grandmother or grandfather up for sale.

The Damned Trilogy By Alan Dean Foster $2.99 Amazon, Kobo and B&N
I've been an Alan Dean Foster fan since Nor Crystal Tears, but I haven't read this omnibus of 3.

A bit like purchasing from DriveThru direct or via Bundle of Holding. At least clicking on the unsubscribe link on the first email works, but I really wish there was a way to default to no marketing on these websites.

Not often I see this happen... Open Road hasn't made any of Foster's "The Damned" available in Canada. It's pretty common for their sales to not reach here, but usually the books themselves are available. Not this time.

I've dealt with that kind of thing before, with of all things the NRA. (Someone used dad's email address to register with them, and he got put on 20+ email lists that required individual cancellation.)

My personal feelings on this is that any company that signs you up to multiple email lists and does not provide and easy and quick way to unsubscribe to them all is an unethical company that no one should do business with. That applies even in this case, as it wouldn't be difficult to provide a central method to unsubscribe to every individual author's mailing list. They simply don't want to do it, so they, and the authors using them, shouldn't get any of your money because of that. There's plenty of indie authors that don't treat their readers that way.

Where DriveThru is concerned it's as much notifications of updated versions as it is marketing. Also, the emails come via DriveThru not directly from the individual companies, so at least it is a reasonably easy task to manage them.

I think that's the point of bookfunnel, as a marketing tool for self-publishers. The authors let them bundle their books in exchange for email addresses. If that's not made clear to buyers, then yes, that is poor.

I have gotten a few books via Bookfunnel when signing up to auther's mailing lists. If Bookfunnel is using my email address in any way other than that, I have no idea what they are doing with it. I haven't received any emails I can't blame on anything else.

Thanks! Been a Howard fan since I was a teen--long ago--when the pastiche series was released with all the Frazetta covers.

I've gotten books through Bookfunnel without getting signed up for anything else.

I've gotten a lot of bookfunnel books (and another service like that I can't remember the name of), and they're putting them out that way for advertisement and to get eyes on their newsletters. Some are books that have been free before, or may be free in the future. Some are short prequels that may be for subscribers only.

I've always thought it was very clear that you had to sign up, and you could always unsubscribe.

I have an extra email addy I just use for those kinds of books, and can say that I never remember getting any emials on it except for author's newsletters and the free book links.

It's my main account that gets all the spam, not that one.
