Interesting, I thought that the image wasn't a straight inversion. It looks much better, to me, than most inverted images on my Glo HD.

Looking at the original page, it does say that images are not inverted. My bad!

What we can agree on is that it's a pretty terrible example of "look, we got images right!" .

I have to disagree.

To me, it is how an image in dark mode should look; dark, without too much white.

If Dark + Inverted could be stacked, maybe.

I was very specifically talking about the usual "Inverted" behavior, though.

Hence the questions of whether "Dark" is just mildly usable inverted, or something else .

(FWIW, the sunxi EPDCs I'm mildly familiar with don't actually support full inversion at the EPDC level (IIRC), so I expect this to be purely software, whatever "this" is ^^).

With koreader you can read PDFs, too (kobo's software for PDF reading is very limited).

I'm sure koreader will also be very soon available for new models.
I'd be careful about installing koreader or plato or any of the other mods; I seriously doubt their authors have had a chance yet to update their mods to reflect the new hardware

Plato and KOReader will need updates. NickelMenu will work, but doesn't yet support the new features. NickelSeries and my other similar mods will work perfectly. I'm going to do the patches after I release kepubify v4.

Which I think means they are displayed "normally" (for whatever "normal" means).

I just put firmware version 4.28.17623 onto my Glo HD. Then I added "DarkMode=true" into the "ReadingSettings" section of the config file. As I should have guessed from where the option is, it only affects reading. And as discussed, it does not affect images.

Hopefully this will be an option on the other devices soon. It won't surprise me if it isn't in the first post-Elipsa firmware release for the other devices to keep it as an exclusive function. If Kobo has another device planned for later in the year, it might happen after that.

It's the first forum I see when I log on to Mobileread: News. Look for the New Kobo Elipsa ereader thread there. It seems to be getting back on topic after a massive turn off topic.

As with other free software, it may need some months not only just to make it "work" (= add device codename to the supported list as usual), but also get it fast and stable.
But looking at how good koreader works on kobos (opposite than PB, even today - see wifi support), I'd expect it to be quick... of course, with no assurance.
