Kindle app: strange rollout of Guided View options
A couple of weeks ago an update for Kindle app on iOS appeared (version 6.43). One of the release notes states:
Quote:
Kindle for Android (v 8.43.0.100) has the same release note, and does show an Aa menu, but none of the options have to do with Guided View. Finally, Kindle for FireOS (v 14.43.100), which has no release notes (it is updated silently and you have to stumble on new features as they appear), does have Aa menu and there are options for Guided View, Letterboxing, and Layout. I assume this is what we’re supposed to be seeing on iOS and Android as well (I did force quit on both platforms but it did not change anything). It’s interesting that the three apps all have ‘43’ in them, so there appears to be an effort to keep common features in sync. But apparently it is one of those features they roll out over a period of time to different groups of users. I contacted customer service (by email) and got the usual clueless response. |

Guided view is only available for comics. I see the new options in the Aa menu on my iPhone and Android tablet.

Only some comics support it too. Not all do.

Exactly my point: I’m not seeing this feature on iOS or Android; only on FireOS.

The Amazon gods have heard my prayers: the feature showed up on my iPad and on my Android tablet.
But still not on iPhone (has Aa menu, but only option to Lock Orientation) or iPad Pro (still no Aa menu). Update: finally showed up on iPhone and iPad as well. It ‘seemed to’ require re-download of some comics (that I’d just downloaded a couple of days ago). And as noted above, some comics don’t support the options even though they have guided view.
