Going to try something new tonight -- Lagavulin—Offerman Edition: Guinness Cask Finish - two of my favorites!

I've previously sampled the Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition finished in Guinness barrels - very nice Irish - makes a lovely highball for summer tippling.

Initial impression -- very light in texture => the heavy "earthy" peat elements of Lagavulin are lacking. My first sip reminded me strongly of Laphroaig, that sweetish, piney, heathery flavor. The peat shows up in the finish with coffee notes, lingering on the back of the tongue. Very little smokiness. I did not note any chocolate notes.

Overall, it tasted like a Lagavulin "light" - dominated by herbal and coffee notes, completely lacking the heavy peat and smoke.

Will be refreshing in the hotter weather.
