The time to process was as close to identical as I could tell using the stopwatch function of my phone. I considered generating multiple copies of each ebook to extend the time to allow for better time resolution but will leave that for someone else to have fun with. |

Kobo upload stuck - Calibre maxing on memory

My Kobo was giving me problems loading books and suddenly chapters started disappearing. I did the troubleshooting suggested on another post and regrettably it did not help.

I decided to do a factory reset on my KoboForma and reload my books (roughly 1,200). I have about 800 on and it’s taken a week of off and on effort. Calibre just totally hangs and the last load of about 50 books took 12 hours. I amy trying again today to load another 58 books and am now at 1% and 54 minutes in. I am ready to throw my beloved reader out the window!! Anyone have any ideas? |

Also, where did these eBooks come from? If you downloaded them, they can have all kinds of problems. |

That's not the reason. I have twice that on my Libra and no issues. Of course I remove unnecessary css and html entries from my books and don't download garbage from suspicious sites. Still, I think the problem is something else. Unfortunately I'm not knowledgeable enough to offer any guesses.

I've more than 2,000 on both my Kobo H2O original (32 G micro SD card, and loads of space) and also on the Libra (leaving it about 1/2 full).

The issue is likely a particular book or a corrupt database. Both those can be fixed. Obviously Flash memory can become faulty. |

I would reset the reader again. This time transfer the books through Calibre as usual but in smaller increments, like 50 or 100 at a time. If it goes slowly, break that batch into smaller increments until you can figure out which book is causing the problem. It's possible it's more than one book. |

I don’t honestly think there is an issue with my books. Most of them were on this reader before as well as my “back-up” Koba Aura H2O. I think it’s a Calibre problem. I am trying again to transfer 10 books and it is maxing my memory (4,500MB) and also high CPU. Last night the job died after 3 plus hours and the application threw a .net error. I tried to cut and paste the details but whole laptop was unresponsive. I have run a chkdsk on the Reader and it was ok. I have also run Library Maintenance (Vacuuming?) in Calibre. I should also mention that I have a large library -60+ GBs/10K+ items - as I have a lot of cookbooks. But the books I am transferring are just regular small novels.

A .net error would point to something other than calibre

@Dchiplin, try the following. Run Calibre and do a Save to Disk of all the eBooks you still want to put on your Kobo. Then close Calibre and plugin the Kobo to the USB port. Using Windows Explorer, copy all of those eBooks to your Kobo. Eject the Kobo and wait for them to finish importing to the database. If that works, run Calibre an plug in the Kobo. Wait for the metadata for those eBooks to be loaded and then you can eject.

But, there are some questions to ask:
Apart from that, I would like to see a debug log from calibre. I usually ask people to restart restart calibre in debug mode, connect the device and do whatever the problem is and post the log after closing calibre. That should give hints of what is happening. In this case, it would probably be better to start calibre from the command-line with "calibre-debug -g". That will write output to the command-line window and can be captured from there. Or use: Code:
	calibre-debug -g > debug.log 2>&1 |

[QUOTE=davidfor;4126125]If calibre behaved like that, it is almost definitely one of your books.

Thanks so much @Davidfor for the kind response and troubleshooting help!! I did get my books transferred but I am for sure saving this post in case I run into further issues!! |
