I still haven't gotten around to reading my omnibus of early Sookie Stackhouse e-books that went on sale in the UK a while back, but now a collection of Sookie Stackhouse short stories has popped up there, on sale for £2.99. The Complete Sookie Stackhouse Stories, by Charlaine Harris was at £10.99 for a long time, then briefly dropped to £5.99, and now to £2.99.

So if you're a Sookie fan, and want to grab all of the short stories in one swoop, this seems like a pretty good time to do it. (Sadly, this same collection is $11.99 in the US, with one brief price drop to $9.99 a couple of years ago - I'm not really sure why they bothered with that price drop...)

Dark Sky is the twenty-first and most recent (2021) in the Joe Pickett series by C.J. Box. It has dropped to £0.99 at Kindle UK. It's always nice to see a most-recent-in-series title on sale at a very nice price! Since this dropped in price at the beginning of May, and is still on sale right now, I'm guessing this may be one of the Kindle UK monthly deal titles, and may go back up in price at the end of May. But if you want it, don't count on that - just grab it now!

This is the tenth title in Creasey's excellent IMO George Gideon series. My handy-dandy trusty currency conversion website tells me that $2.99 and £2.11 are as nearly the same as makes no difference at all, so take your pick!

Scotland Yard's Commander George Gideon thought he had seen it all, and still remained convinced that London was civilized. However, he is forced to reconsider when the usually polite politics of the upcoming election turn into something ugly. Matters take an even stranger turn when it is discovered that a warhead and a small nuclear reactor are missing. Is there a connection? It would seem so and Gideon is left to work it out ....

Gideon's Fire is the seventh in the George Gideon series by John Creasey (writing as JJ Marric), which is IMO a great police procedural series. Per SYKM, it also won the 1962 Edgar Award for Best Mystery. And it's on sale right now at Kindle US for only $0.60. Not just $0.99, seriously it's on sale for $0.60. Not sure how long this will last, so if you want it, grab it!

Fleming died in 1964 so in countries where books enter the public domain 50 years after the authors death the Bond books are free for anyone to publish. Alas not the case in UK and US where public domain is 70 years.

Since James Bond -- at least many of the books by Ian Fleming, there are exceptions -- is public domain in many countries including Canada, it's very likely these editions were just raided from Project Gutenberg or else badly OCRed from somebody's personal copies then had new (and very bad, misspelled and mislabeled) covers slapped on then offered for sale. Thanks but no thanks, there are way better versions to be found.

A bunch of John Creasey titles across several series (George Gideon, Inspector West, The Baron, Dr Palfrey, The Toff, etc.) seem to have gone on sale for $2.99 in the US, and £1.77/£2.xx in the UK. (These are in addition to the Department Z titles of his that are e-pubbed by Agora Books and go on sale for $1.99 a lot.)

Due to Creasey's use of pen names and the vagaries of Amazon's search, I wasn't able to get my usual search URLs to work very well. So the best way I found to pull these was to just go to the John Creasey author page, choose Kindle books, and then sort by price. The links below do just that, or you can just do it yourself. There are about 3 pages of titles in the US at $2.99 or less, and a bit less than 3 pages of titles in the UK at £2.xx or less.

These mostly don't seem to be on sale at Kobo US, but if you have a few titles you want, you might try just searching specifically for them at Kobo to check.

You also have to watch out for alternate titles. House of Stratus, who seem to have the e-book rights to most of Creasey's series except for Department Z, mostly have not kept the old titles. But if you click on the sample, and page down to the copyright info page, the original title is provided in small print below the new one. So check carefully before you buy.
